Several Hurricanes made highlight-worthy plays on Wednesday, including freshman Trayone Gray. In his first practice as a Hurricane, the Carol City High alum turned heads when he caught a screen pass from senior Jake Heaps and exploded past defenders to score a touchdown on his first touch of the 11-on-11 period.

1. To your post, Kids a beast and I'm glad he's showing out on his first day

2 . not directed at this post but the whole board, is Gray's mom running this site now or something ? I'm excited to see this kid too, probably my favorite recruit outside of Chad Thomas but judging by the posters in here you would think he already won the Heisman... While being behind a potential Heisman candidate on the depth chart.

I realize yours might have been sarcasm just an observation on my end

I think it's that a lot of people really respect him for working so hard to get into school in the first place. It seemed like he wouldn't make it in so when he got in people were just stoked. Plus his skill set is intriguing, being that fast and muscular (he weighed in at 220?!?!?), and his versatility. It's just a good story no matter how you look at it.

All that, plus he had us all when he cried after his NSD singing. Kid made a home in a lot of our hearts that moment.

Seems like he's getting more hype than Duke, when he came in.

Well here's this little jewel from the Sperminator: "Also re Trayone Gray, he is so far behind I am not sure I see him doing much this year. Could be wrong, but ........."

Does this ****head know anything about the game of football? He's like a little Napolean with a unibrow walking around. He's the only one I've seen with this kind of review of Chocolate.

No question he worked his *** off to get to this point, and I respect that work ethic. If he put in the work in the class room when everyone said he had no chance of getting in, just imagine what he can do on the field when he puts the same effort in.
Now I'm not as high as some people are on him, because to me, his tape wasn't elite, but it was good. I do think he might have great to elite speed, and his body size is perfect for either RB or WR. This is why he is such an exciting guy to have, but overall, I don't think he will be as good as Duke or Coley like some people think he can be.
But as far as his ranking in this class, Thomas, McDermott, and Yearby are better players; Gray might have more potential though....

Gotta agree with gatorhater on this one. To show that much emotion on NSD you're gonna win over the fan base then on top of that to have talent to match you're more than a green tree practice legend.

Another reason him playing RB is good for him, because it is probably the easiest/fastest position to learn. But there is nothing stopping him from playing special teams which he could have a significant impact on. So it isn't reasonable to see him get too many touches every game, but I think he will have a presence.

Plus++++ he makes up for missing on dalvin cook. Has the same skill set but all cane. Gotta see him get some game burn tho to really get a feel for how good he's gonna be.

For me, it's not that he is the GOAT, it's the thought that if he works as hard to stay here and compete as he did to get here then lookout. He is as physically gifted as they come and appears to be physically ready as well. Duke's transformation after 3 years here is impressive so I'm excited to see Gray's growth as a CANE.

Can someone provide the tape?

Gray remind me of the 3 star recruit that normally go elsewhere, show out, and then end up in the league balling out.

Disclaimer: I've been a big fan of Gray since day one. I think he is very raw but thats ok. He can be with that kind of acceleration.

Having said that, I think if Gray had arrived without any prolonged struggle, if there had been no uncertainty and lingering doubt for porsters to wonder and speculate whether he would get in, there would be far less hype.

I like Gray a lot but folks need to pump the brakes big time. kid didnt play RB full time in HS and his tape playing RB doesnt really show much.

he is the 4th RB on the depth chart right now and will likely only get PT (at RB) in garbage time vs FAMU or whatever D2 school we're playing this year.

otherwise he could contribute on specials this year. other than that I wouldnt expect much THIS YEAR

His versatility, in addition to his speed, makes him a great option to have on the field more often. He's both a rushing and receiving threat from the RB position. Would love to see some 2-back sets with Gray and Duke in the backfield at the same time. Maybe some play action, fake the handoff to Duke, pull the defense in a bit, and throw the wheel route to Gray.
