Miami Hurricanes Transfer Portal & Recruiting Buzz + Q&A April 20

[partial summary, will post updates and update the OP time permitting]

David Stone

  • Geo says staff will pursue
  • NIL dispute between his reps and OK & Issues with a particular coach caused him to hit the portal
  • OK wanted him back
  • Stone likely to investigate all options, going to test the market
  • $EC competition unlikely, B10 likely primary competition
  • Texas Tech a rumored suitor

Maraad Watson

  • Played 60 snaps against Miami
  • Geo was vauge about Miami's involvement in this recruitment
  • Fits profile of a multi-year recruit

WR and DT market discussion
  • very limited on high-end players, distorts value
  • DT market thin on elite players, witness interest in Horton.
  • Teams looking for traits

Trebor Pena

  • Miami likes Pena
  • Not considered elite (ala Jeremiah Smith level)
  • Currently considered best WR available in the portal

Braxton Fely

  • [Limited discussion so far]

Andrew Simpson [Boise State LB]

  • Geo hearing Miami not very interested
RB Discussion

Only RB3 (at best) option available to players

Kendrick Raphael

  • Miami interested, but may not be happy with RB3 role

TreyShun Hurry

  • Recently offered by Miami, WR3 at San Jose St
  • Very limited options/alternatives at WR right now
  • Louisville trying to get him to visit. Brohm may see something here
Hykeem Williams

Miami not interested out of HS, F$U bust, duplicates role of Josh Moore. Why would Miami be interested?

Noah King

Visiting Monday, Geo said Miami is recruiting as a safety?
4.4 speed

HS Recruiting

Devin "Djack" Jackson

  • Miami the team to watch here, multiple ties to Will Harris
  • Watch recruitment closely
Shelton Henderson

  • Pick in for Miami and could happen soon.
  • Will be second highest rated recruit in program history.
Top of the Safety Board

Cortez Redding
Blake Stewart
Devin "Djack" Jackson
Justice Fitzpatrick
Ayden Pouncey
Nassir "Nascar" Mccoy

Safeties that Could Hit the Portal

Bryce Thornton

  • Gates supposedly worked through the NIL issues

AJ Haulcy

  • Would be a likely target IF he were to enter the portal
  • [Hit the portal just after Geo did the show]

Thanks - The SEC does not allow intra-SEC transfers during the spring so seems like Stone would need to go somewhere other than the SEC

So.. one of the reasons we told Carr to walk was to "reallocate" resources.

But the WR market is "very limited on high-end players, distorts value". Which means we're going to overpay for someone who's not worth it.

Its a circle jerk.

Instead of overpaying for a 1 year rental who won't be much of an upgrade, maybe we should've kept Carr, who's got 3 years of eligibility.

It just doesn't make sense.

We need to stop bringing in second or third rate players. I’d rather play our younger guys and develop them

Why is Geo saying SEC competition unlikely considering you cannot transfer from one SEC school to another.

He playing candyland and not checkers?

By all indications Carr was beat out this spring on depth chart by Toney and possibly Moore, and knows we were going for portal WR too. So that’d put him 5th or 6th. So I think it was as much or more about him wanting to go somewhere he will play than us not wanting him.

Watson - DT Freshman All America, we are aware he is the portal right?
Maybe we should quit chasing Stone all over again, getting old.

Not anywhere near as much as most people seem to believe. He was an option. Till late in the process he wasn't focused on.
Iirc, I don’t ever remember an All out push for Hykeem. His recruitment much to my dismay seemed lukewarm and just going thru the motions. I was kind of upset we let him go to fsu without a real push. I get it now, as many thought he was overrated. I guess Miami’s lukewarm push is justified now.
