When I saw the kids warmed up without shirts on, I knew they were ready to win this game. Well done to whoever came up with that idea.
Morris: Probably one of his better games of his career. He made some ridiculously tough throws look easy. Especially the dropped TD by Coley. It is no wonder that Morris level of play has increased now that he is mobile again. No he is not a running threat, but what he does when he is healthy is gets outside the pocket and delivers accurate throws. That was a severe limitation when his ankle was hurt and clearly hurt his productivity and decision making.
Coley: Beast. What makes him special is his patience. Most kids that fast outrun their blocks. He waits and takes the opening. This kid is the goods. He has easy speed and no one will ever catch him from behind. He just played with that LB all the way down the field on his 73 yard TD run. So happy Golden kept him away from FSU.
Gus: I was down on him the last few weeks. I even wondered if he had what it takes to play here. This game proved that he can be our Wilder type running back. However he must learn to get the pad level down and deliver the final blow. He gets hit way to hard at the end of nearly every run.
Hurns: Congrats on a career day and a nice UM career overall. Pretty good for a low 3 star athlete. Must continue to work on his hands if he wants to make it at the next level.
OL: They played a heck of a game namely because they did not let 97 dominate. Great job!
Defense: They gave up 500 yards. However at least they competed this game. Gaines finally showed up. Overall the team was laying the wood. I especially liked the fact we finally started making teams pay for going over the middle. If they are going to catch it at least lay someone out. I think it was PBuch that mentioned this a few weeks back. Someone got the message. Talent is still an issue. The Savage 9 yard TD run was embarrassing. First Green whiffs on a sack and then Cornelius somehow overruns a slow QB. That one left me scratching my head big time.
Jenkins: This was one of his best games. He was active on the run game. and laid some licks. He was also in the right spots on passing downs. He had some nice pass break ups. Was also close to an INT had Highsmith not tipped the ball. He showed some flashes of why he should be pretty good next year.
Goudis: We were all down on him but he has recovered. His only issue is he has a 45 and under leg. Maybe another offseason his leg gets stronger for those long kicks we need him to make in tight games.
ST: Another blocked punt my McCord. Kidd was all over the place. A guy like Kidd is why losing 3 scholarships a year does not hurt under Golden. Somehow he always finds 2 walkons that can make good contributions. This year Kidd and Fentress. Next year it will be Kidd and someone else that Golden motivates to make his name as a walkon.
Cherry: Is there a more embarrassing referee than him? It is almost like watching a comedian call the penalties. At one point he makes this call sweeping his arm behind his back without calling out the penalty. I am thinking what the **** is that? Immediately the announcer gets a jab in saying this was the clipping call from the 1970's. What a **** joke. Someone please send him out to the MAC or something.
