Positives:
The defense got a little better this week. Not much but at least they forced some punts and make some tackles for a loss. This was a pretty good NC OL yet the DL was not getting blown off the ball as consistently as against ND. Nice INT by EJ as well. Ambrister actually made a couple good tackles.

Fisch made a commitment to running.

OL and James played pretty well.

Howard had a nice little game. Good to see him making progress.

Hurns made some nice YAC.

Negatives:
Defensive scheme I am really starting to question. I have never seen a defense give up the edge on a sweep play so consistently. And it is not as if the players are being blocked or missing tackles. There is simply no one in site to make a play. This happened over 6 or 7 times against ND. NC certainly saw that on film and ran the same plays. Normally when an off tackle run is played the RB's goal is to read the DE and see if he is going to have to go wide or wider. Against us the RB does not even see a DE or a LB and has a whole so big they simply run right up and outside the OT. Bernard had more than 5 runs like this where he gained 5 yards before you even saw a Miami defender. I am no expert but this has to be a scheme problem.

The team looked flat yesterday. When will the Shannon emotionless attitude leave this team?

Thank you Randy Shannon for letting Bernard go to NC. Yesterday was the first time his father saw him play a game in person. You think his father and family really wanted him to go to NC when they cannot afford to travel and see him? Well done and good riddance on another bad evaluation and recruitment.

Apparently Golden has lost all confidence in Wieclaw. Not good for pulling out any tight games the rest of the way.

Morris never got in a rhythm for some reason. It would have been nice to see him in at the end. It could have been a different outcome. I think he was finally hitting his stride before he got hurt.

Dorsett did not "drop" that TD pass. His feet came out from under him trying to catch an under thrown ball. He may have had some confidence issues going into yesterday's game but not enough to allow him to let a ball hit him in the helmet. Thankfully he caught everything thrown his way after that except for one bang bang play when the DB hit him exactly when it touched his hands.

Duke is not healthy. If Morris does not play next week I say sit Duke as well.

We never made an adjustment to NC blitzing a LB up the middle. Too many times that man came free and screwed up several plays. That should have been accounted for at some point.

Tough loss and won we should have won, experience or not. When an opponent commits 15 penalties then you have to capitalize. Losing your QB and not having a FG kicker hurts in that type of game. Still should have won. Let's not forget about the penalty on the 2 point conversion. We had NC totally off guard on that and likely would have scored. The refs were falling over backwards all game to get NC the ball fast enough to run their hurry up. And then they call that on us? That was BS and would have made it a 3 point game instead of 4.

Don't know if you guys noticed, but Howard reading the flea flicker right probably saved a touchdown.

Look we didn't deserve to win the game..... all of our points were off their stupid penalties roughing the kicker, Pass interference, offsides ect. and the interception we got was a gift. If we would have won it woulda been like a meh I will take the win but **** we got that game handed to us.

I agree, the ends need to lineup outside the tackle to give them the advantage setting the edge so the lb can fill the gap for the cutback. Undersized DE's head up over an offensive tackle on a reach block, advantage, offensive tackle every time.

You can say they didn't deserve it either. We moved the ball into their territory 6 times and came away with 2 scores. Why is that when people want to complain, they only look at mistakes the other team made and not ones we did? (Don't answer that, I know the answer, because you want to complain).

how about I say it was a ***** game by both sides that was a toss up like most of our wins this season besides Bethume

Novel thought. Too bad our def coord doesnt try that.

I'm not discouraged or dreading next week like I was post-KSt/ND. Defense did play much better, tough inside run game, and we had the ball with a chance to win in the 4th. What worries me is that this passing game is all-or-nothing, and too inconsistent to sustain drives. This offense hasn't strung together first-downs or converted many consecutive 3rds all year. Hopefully that changes next weekened.

Didn't notice. Regardless, a flea flicker was doomed from the start by the way we lined up on the play. Our safeties were miles down the field. The one time lining up miles off the ball paid off.

One play that stood out to me that tells me our biggest problem on defense is talent and not scheme occurred early in the 2nd quarter.

It was 3rd and 5 near midfield. The WR on the short side of the field runs a 7-yard hook. The boundary CB bails at the snap of the ball, and Telemaque rotates up. Shayon Green drops into coverage to take away the slant. The QB takes a three-step drop and stares down the hook. Telemaque, for whatever reason, just stands there and gets a late break on the ball. Picks up 7 yards. First down. Not only is Telemaque slow-footed, but he also made a slow read.

A better safety takes that pass to the house.

Good stuff Able. I had to rewind that play because at first I thought it was an example of us playing too far off. When i reviewed the play all I could do was shake my head.

It's obvious why Morris never got into any rhythm. We had no WR that could consistently catch yesterday. Dorsett made a short cameo and Hurns was good for 2 drives, but that's pretty much it. Morris isn't always on target but he puts enough of them close enough to make a catch. The issue here is youth IMO. These guys have never had to bounce back from a poor performance. If Morris gets back this year, our WR will bounce back some game and learn from it. And I said it when it happened, losing Lewis would hurt us big. By far, our most consistent catcher and a nice big target for Morris since none of our TEs ever want to catch. We lost these last two games in large part due to WR corp laying eggs.
