While at Mizzou, a friend of mine brought this to my attention, Kul signed 1.8 DT's a year.

Over 15 years

Nothing has changed and he's under that woeful statistic now.

I'm assuming that's pure tackle prospects. So over 5 years that would be 9 scholarships which means 6 to 7 on roster at any given time. I'm sure defensive end prospects were converted to tackle as well. He already moved Bethel which made a lot of sense. I think he was playing on moving Johnson which also made a lot of sense.

If you're arguing Miami needs to sign at least another tackle, then let's see how Miami finishes.

I'm withholding judgement and panic until after the cycle is over. Nearly all of his DT targets are signing in Feb so if he closes them it'll be job well done. No sense in criticizing or panicking until after his targets sign.

Historical precedent is a good barometer.

Sure it is. How many DT's per year is ideal? I honestly don't know. Maybe 2-2.5? 2 per year is 8 DT's on the squad before attrition.

Bama typically has 9-11

Good barameter as well.

Georgia currently has 12 total DL.

Alabama has 13 total DL.

8 DT's on a roster at one time is very high.

So is 1.8 per year about where it should be?

That would actually be an improvement over what he's done here. So far, he's brought in one a year with Bethel moving inside (committed to Golden).

that's a good point. If he is looking for quickness and athleticism on the DL then it makes sense that he recruits more DE and develop them to tackles than pure DT. The good DTs are few and far between and I think would command a lot of attention from schools so will be harder to recruit I would imagine.

They run a 3-4. Miami currently has 10 total DL going into next year if you include commits.

Coach Kul is one of the best DL coaches in the country. Why are we struggling to recruit DL? Is he not a good recruiter??

How much of a player is .8?

1.8 per year means that he recruits 2 DTs per year, and over the course of 5 seasons he will have basically gotten 2 DTs per class 4 out of the 5 years, and 1 Dt in 1 of the 5 years.

That seems pretty good to me.

And its seems pretty clear that we are going after at least 1 more DT this class, more than likely we're aiming for 2 more. If he gets 3 DTs this class, that would mean over a 2 year cycle he'd have brought in 4 DTs. Plus you have to consider when he was recruiting last year he probably went in with the assumption he'd have McIntosh, Norton, Willis, Bethel, Martin all returning in 2019. So it made sense for him to only go for 1 DT in the 2017 class, plus its entirely possible he planned on DJ being a DT.

Sometimes things just don't go according to plan. And thats why we're going for 3 in this class. But I don't think we're neccessarily scrambling to get these 2 other commits like yall seem to think we are. Its clear we got our top DT target in Nesta. The rest, like Coburn, we are very much still in it for. Plus I'd say its likely we get a grad transfer NT, which would actually be best for us. It would give us a year of good play, and then Nesta would be able to take over at NT as a sophomore.
