forgetting the run

I know that Morris has been a bit inconsistent, but his numbers the last two weeks are insane. I am a little worried that Fisch might go away from the run/power-I because of Morris' offensive explosion with his arm.

D$, Lu, etc.... is this concern valid? It seemed like we were running early in the game but put less emphasis on it as the game went on.

Thoughts... am I worried about nothing (I love how Smiley James has been running the last 2 games)? Or, is our best bet to let Morris chuck it all over the field? Also, which type of offense do you think gives our defense the best chance of success?

If we don't run the ball well next week I don't think we will produce much offensively. this is jmo, but I think we need Duke and Mike James to combine for 130+

As long as we get yards who gives a *** how we get them no?

I hear ya, but with so many of our scoring drives being quick and a large proportion of the rest being quick 3/4 and outs, does that wear down/put pressure on an underperforming defense

I think Fisch goes into certain games (like today's) with a pretty good idea whether the Canes can move the ball on the ground and prepares the gameplan accordingly. For the past several years, the O line rarely has much success running against "good" defensive fronts, they simply get no push and are normally stalemated, or worse, pushed back. Therefore, some games Fisch intends to pass more ... once in the game it becomes apparent that they aren't going to have consistent success running (without gimmicks)... so then he starts calling even more pass plays (especially when they are ripping off chunks like the last couple of games). I do think he abandons the run from time to time, but so do most teams - Mike McCarthy just about got Aaron Rodgers killed in the first half against the Seahawks when he called pass after pass after pass. ND is being touted as having one of the nation's best front 7's. I doubt Miami will be able to line up and run right at them with any regularity.

im not in the camp that says run the ball just for the sake of running it... nc state was forcing us to beat them in the air.. and we did.. simple as that.

44 points, 600 yards.

What other response is required here?

Well, but look what their linebackers were doing... everybody is keying on Duke Johnson now... and understandably so... I mean look at what he put on film after the first couple games. Duke's our #1 weapon other teams want to take away. I would have probably done the same thing and keyed in on Duke if I were a defensive coordinator for NC State. It's not really that our line didn't get a push to support the run so much as that they were keying in on Duke/Mike James and daring Morris to beat them with his arm.

Morris MORE than stepped up to the challenge.

We ran the ball 30+ times and averaged under 3YPC. Line got zero push. At some point, you stop sticking your finger into the electric socket and move on. Pack couldn't cover anybody.

Well it does not tire them out but it breaks their will when Morris bombs one for 60+ yards for a touchdown.

exactly

2.7 avg on 32 carries. if its not working, you dont force it hoping that it will

This. But people on here say we are not running enough to establish a running "attitude," whatever that is.
