Miami rises up recruiting rankings

Thanks to two post-signing day pickups, Miami has moved up the latest ESPN RecruitingNation class rankings to No. 15, six spots higher than they were three weeks ago.

The Hurricanes recently signed ESPN 150 tight end Derrick Griffin, the No. 1 prospect at his position. He flipped his commitment from Texas A&M and signed Tuesday, and will reportedly play both football and basketball for Miami.

They also signed ESPN 300 RB Cornelius Elder, a four-star athlete out of Nashville, Tenn. Miami has now signed 19 to the class of 2013, including seven ranked in the ESPN 150 and eight overall in the ESPN 300. That is especially impressive, considering the NCAA investigation that has loomed over the program throughout the recruiting process.

Miami's move up means a few ACC teams moved down. Virginia Tech dropped one spot to No. 20, and North Carolina moved down one spot to No. 21.

The fact that Va Tech's class was considered better than ours before these pickups..

Golden is becoming the king of post-signing day pickups. He's basically turned into Billy Mays, waiting for signing day to pass and then screaming "BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!"

"We are already sending you the Sandland, the Coley, the Grace, and the Olsen, but for the next 20 minutes, we are throwing in a 4-star WR/TE from Texas for ABSOLUTELY FREE!"

We got an all American caliber player at every position, except for you know where

Lets just sign 15 DT next class and be done with it for the next 4 yrs:fistbump:

Curtis Porter
Olsen Pierre
Luther Robinson
Jalen Grimble
Dequan Ivery
Earl Moore
Corey King
Jacoby Briscoe

All 8 of those DT's say hello. I get it, the DT's underperformed last season. They're all gaining weight and getting more knowledge of the position during this offseason. This defense is going to be leaps and bounds better than last season. Bet!!!

Our top 3 DT's I'm pretty confident in (as long as they're healthy).

But the depth behind them is young and questionable.

Moore and Ufamba will probably be the next two up, but Moore will only be a sophmore and Ufamba is still pretty raw. It would've been nice to have higher level, refined JuCo DT to add to the rotation.

Young and Questionable? They'll be a year older, stronger, and smarter soon enough...

A lot of JAGs there. Porter's Health and Pierre and Robinson staying out of stupidity are huge. Only 3 guys who have done anything

Yeah, they will be a year older, stronger (should be) and smarter (hopefully). That doesn't mean they'll be better players. We have no basis to assume they'll make a huge leap to contribute next year.

Being a year older doesn't guarantee them anything other than being a year older. We can't assume they'll be more impactful just because they're older. Especially when up to this point Grimble has been a huge disappointment and the others will only be in their second year of college (except King who'll be a RS So).

LOL at thinking that Ufamba will step right into the rotation.

So the same folks who claim not to care about stars when the argument suits them are now high fiving over our recruiting rankings?

Could we stop calling rising sophomores JAGs? They're developing. Development isn't a step you just skip over. There's growing pains, especially along the defensive line.

Exactly. Among the veterans, just having a healthy Porter will be a huge difference, and we saw a flash of that at the end of last season when he started playing. This coming season he should be in much better game shape. Pierre played better as the season progressed as well, and Robinson had his moments.

For the young guys, Earl Moore could very well be a solid, if not very good DT based on his limited playing time last season, so calling him a JAG is just ridiculous. Give him and the other youngsters a chance before dismissing them.
