I keep hearing how kids are leaving football and going to soccer and that may be true in some parts of the country but not in Florida, Georgia or Texas. Not sure what is going on in Ohio but they are on a downward trend. I didn't bother pulling other states and didn't include student population growth. Also, Ohio momma's are scared and Florida momma's not so much. I don't have a son but if I did I would be fine with him playing football, regardless of CTE.

Is it really only soccer, or are other sports, the reason for the downward shifts in those other states?Soccer has a major problem with concussions. In Europe (& to some extent in So. America) moms are questioning whether to allow their sons/daughters to take up the sport.

Those are two phrases I’ve never heard together before, “Ohio” and “downward trend” 😉

I just returned from the future
The 2046 Miami Hurricanes gender fluid flag football team is having a hard time getting enough kids to want to play such a violent two hand sport to fill their roster, even after winning their 2nd straight national participation trophy.
😱🤮😩🙃👍

That's high school participation numbers. You have to look at youth football numbers which I believe are tanking nationally. Here in Northern Virginia, when my son played 7-8 year in 2006 we had 80 teams. This past year we had 32 teams.

And NoVa population has skyrocketed since 2006, so just organic growth should have been 120+ teams.

Some local high schools (6A) did not field junior varsity or 9th grade teams last year. Just starting to see the impact at the high school level.
