We always say we want an innovative approach to X’s and O’s. Well we can definitely say we are the innovators in terms of Talent accumulation.

Look at the NFL they devote as many resources scouting other NFL players as they do college. It’s obviously a new era with the portal but Manny is at the cutting edge of understanding how to play it.

This reminds me of the Bears haul last off season through free agency, the draft and trades that completely remade the roster.

Butch redefined the grey shirt while at UM. we were on severe probation and Butch had to maintain a program that the NCAA put on the verge of death. I know many on here do not like him or the way he left, but don't discount the cutting edge recruiting Butch did to build a dynasty.

What exactly is it that puts Manny at the 'cutting edge' of understanding how to play the portal?

I’ve been wondering this as well. The portal is so new that I’m not sure if it’s Manny or simply an aligning of the planets... in the sense that you get a new transfer system, a beautiful location, a national brand with a roster that has glaring deficiencies and a desperate need for veteran talent, immediate playing time available and you get the last 5 weeks of portal fun.

Manny thinks on multiple levels when evaluating his program. MONTANA!

He got 5 impact players who can step in Day 1 and make an impact. As well as a QB with lots of potential. Name me another school that did that. These guys have by and large proven themselves at a much higher level than any HS player has. The reality is that even at Alabama 40-50% of their recruits are busts. These guys (except Martell) have all done it in college. There are no busts.

Manny knew how to sell UM as a springboard to the NFL for transfers highlighting the success of Colbert and co, he also had his existing players recruit for him (Bolden, Martell).

Just as “Necessity is the mother of invention”, desperation can be the mother of expediency when opportunity presents itself (If one is quick thinking). Manny was quick thinking in this respect and took advantage of the portal opportunity. Plain and simple.

I also think that Temple opportunity was a gift to the U, as it provided Manny to be in the proverbial “Third gear” by the time Richt chose the pastures to retire to. Perfect storm, so far, no other way to put it.

My post wasn't meant to imply that I didn't think Manny deserved any credit, because he obviously deserves a ton of credit for the way he's attacked the portal. Just mentioning that there are a lot of factors involved in the recent portal success we've enjoyed. Miami is a dream destination for a lot of kids who have 1-2 years left of college life and are looking to raise their NFL draft stock
