Good morning, friends. Today, we get to watch the Miami Hurricanes basketball team play again. The Canes are hosting ACC opponent Virginia Cavaliers, who are also at the bottom of the ACC.

Virginia has a record of 9-11 this season. The Cavaliers have lost to teams including Tennessee, St. John's, Florida, SMU, Memphis, California, Louisville, and others. Most recently, they lost to Notre Dame.

The Cavaliers might not be the best team out there, but anything can happen in the ACC. FanDuel...

Oddsmakers have finally released an opening line for tonight's matchup between Miami and Virginia. The Hurricanes are actually favored in this game.

Miami is a 1.5-point favorite over Virginia at the Watsco Center. The total is set for 133. In the last game, Miami surprisingly covered after nine straight games not covering the spread.

On the other hand, Virginia's last game against Notre Dame was not covered by Virginia as the Cavaliers were favorites and lost. But before that, they covered three straight games.

According to ESPN Analytics, Miami has a 61.7 percent chance of beating UVA.

Whoever you pick, bet responsibly.

UVA is way down this year but yea we probably lose by 20+. Would like to think they can build on the Cal game and be competitive but that was probably just a blip.

The University of Miami men’s basketball team (4-17, 0-10 ACC) faced an 82-71 setback against the Virginia Cavaliers (10-11, 3-7 ACC) Wednesday night at the Watsco Center.

Senior Matthew Cleveland recorded his eighth 20-point game of the season, pouring in 27 points to lead the Hurricanes in scoring.

Fellow senior Brandon Johnson joined Cleveland in double-figures with 13 points of his own, marking the second straight game he has eclipsed the 10-point mark.

Five different Hurricanes tallied the first five buckets to give Miami an early 14-9 lead. However, the Cavaliers knocked down four straight 3-pointers to put the Cavaliers on top, 21-14, with 9:19 to play in the half.

Johnson knocked down his second 3-pointer of the night to put a halt to the Virginia run, but the Cavaliers continued to produce on offense, shooting 60.7 percent from the field in the first half to hold a 40-29 lead at the halftime break.

Miami came out of the locker room on a mission, outscoring Virginia, 15-7, in the first seven minutes of the half to cut the deficit to three, 47-44, at the 12:57 mark.

Freshman Austin Swartz kept the Hurricanes within striking distance of the Cavaliers thanks to a pair of clutch 3-pointers, but Miami could never completely close the gap, ultimately falling to Virginia, 82-71.

Miami next hosts the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tipoff at the Watsco Center is set for 8 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN2.

There was little to celebrate in the loss to Virginia on Wednesday night, as only two Canes, Matthew Cleveland and Brandon Johnson, scored in double figures.

Matthew Cleveland was the only player who came to live for the Canes in the second half, scoring 17 of the Canes' 42 points. He finished the game with a total of 27 points, along with four rebounds and two assists, shooting 10 for 16.

Cleveland has scored over 20 points in eight of their last eleven games.

It wasn't a perfect game for Cleveland as he was 0/3 from behind the arc but when we need to go get a bucket or when we need to get to the rim I don't think there is a better choice out there on this team than Cleveland.

In the last four games, Cleveland has averaged 27.7 points per game. Although he started the season slowly, he began to get into his rhythm offensively after Nijel went down with an injury following the Tennessee game.

Well, my hopes were high when we cut it to three, but of course, we just cannot get a defensive stop as the Canes let a team that averaged 61 points per game before the game today get 82 points on offense, which is their season-high this season.

Take a look at the box score down below even though there is nothing really impressive with the Canes stats today, Cleveland was the only impressive stat to me as he was just doing Cleveland stuff, getting another 20+ games.

Nothing really to say here. We're terrible and just down so bad and in need of full rebuild. I'm talking everything--replace the hardwood and repaint the rafters, too.

The season ending in a little over a month will be a mercy. Only real thing I am proud of is that these guys-knowing how bad they are as a team are-still go out there and try. It's easy to quit when the going gets tough and this losing streak is deflating. We got a lot to do in the offseason and beyond to get back into the conversation.

It certainly looked like we quit at one point. That SMU game was a good example. But Cleveland and a couple other guys have turned it up a notch and have been fighting, at least.

It is every player for himself right now. Matt Cleveland knows he needs good film and numbers for an NBA combine invite and/or going to Europe.
I can’t believe we are just 2 seasons removed from the Final 4, but UM needs a complete overhaul of the men’s BB program.

I’m honestly surprised that Coach L didn’t have a better lead asst coach and wasn’t asked to do so. But success has a way of creating complacency.

..

He should have been asked to step down after last season's fiasco.... it completely evident that he had no idea what to do

If this stat don’t say something then i don’t know what to tell you. We struggle on the defensive end so much that coming into this game Virginia was averaging 61 points per game and we end up letting up 82 points without there two starters.

Miami defensive efficiency is one of the worst in the nation and it’s not surprising
