FAU

We got completely screwed by a terrible fake hbp call in the 8th. Led to 2 FAU runs. Without that call we win

Had similar call for us as well , we looked a little sluggish today. Would guess we drop 1 in rankings. Still well positioned for regionals.

How long can Heyward be kept in the cleanup spot? He's been bad pretty much the whole season. I could only imagine the numbers Collins would be putting up if he had any protection. At least Abreu has some pop. Why not move him up?

Because it sets up a lefty-lefty matchup back to back for opposing managers. Having Heyward at the cleanup spot puts pressure on an opposing manager's decision whether or not to bring in a lefty to face just Collins, but then have to face Heyward right after. If Abreu follows Collins, that's 2 LH batters the opposing manager can bring in a lefty-specialist in for.

EDIT - that being said, I do wish Heyward was producing better in the cleanup spot. His average is down, but if he can get hot - that makes us super-dangerous offensively, even more so than we have been so far this season.

I get the lefty-righty strategy, but you can't have a cleanup hitter slugging .300. If I'm the opposing coach, I'm bringing in the lefty to face Collins and Heyward until Heyward starts hitting.

Baseball is, more than any other game, about the law of averages. Heyward may be slugging .300 right now, but he doesn't project to do that forever. If opposing managers decide to take your stance, they'll eventually get burnt if/when Heyward gets hot.

That being said - Morris decided for tonight against UVA that somehow Lopez should bat behind Collins instead of Heyward. How that logic works, I dunno. Lopez ain't a cleanup hitter.
