I have not watched every single bowl game these last 2 weeks, but the few that I have I have
witnessed a bunch of soFla kids who were rated pretty low by the so-called internet recruiting gurus.
Everything from the 2-3 star stuff to the "he wouldn't be able to start at UM" stuff.

I mean, we already know about the kids playing for Louisville (although Bridgewater and Keith Brown
were so-called 5 stars, the remainder weren't) and what did to our team.
But right down the road from house I watched Marshall take it to Maryland with a bunch of
soFla kids starring for them. *Their QB Rakheem Cato impressed me as much as the Louisville QB.

Virginia Tech has 2 Dlmen who could've played for us this year, especially the DT Luther Maddy.

How about that true frosh LB killing it for USCarolina?
Not good enough for UM, but good enough to start for a better team in the SEC?

And now UCF....they've got 3 OLmen doing considerably more than any of our OLmen. *Getting downfield,
knocking folks on their tails. *
I see a bunch of WRs and DBs who could've helped us greatly. *Heck, who the heck is that WR from Carol
City? *Never even knew he existed.

My point(s)? *I think we as fans focused too much on these so-called 5-stars, and perhaps our coaches
spend too much time chasing some of these guys, when perhaps we should try to keep some of these other
kids home. *
That old thinking (from mostly fans) about searching for OLmen and QBs outside of Florida because we turn
out skill players appears to be nonsense. *Lots of good QBs and OLmen coming from the Sunshine state.

Miami gets their fair share of four and five star players. We've missed out on a ton of good ones though like Patrick Peterson, Alex Collins, Devonta Freeman, among a ton of others. However, South Florida has so many players that contribute early and often at programs around the country, it baffles me how Miami's talent level has dropped to the level it has. It is straight up negligent. Miami is out there recruiting linebackers from Georgia and New York, quarterbacks from anywhere else but South Florida, running backs from Tennessee and New York. You have the cream of the crop right here in South Florida. Even the second and third tier players are A+ gets for other programs.

Its not an issue of star ratings. Its an issue of player development. That is the common theme of your post.

If Jawand Blue went to VT, you would have mentioned him in your post as to why he was contributing to VT and how did we miss on him.

And you know what, I don't mind us chasing those so-called 5 star players from soFla or even outside the state.
It's important to get those sort of players, but I just wish we could balance those out with the locals.
We spent last recruiting cycle courting that skinny OLB diva from BTW who was never coming here, when we
could've nabbed Skai Moore.

Oh, and that O'Korn QB for Houston is another one I wish we would've nabbed.

Finally, what the helle is Brett Perriman's son doing on UCF's roster?

Yeah, I was thinking about this as well.
I didn't really want to go there, but you're probably right.

1. Not all of these South Florida kids you're seeing excel at these other schools would fit the schemes we're trying to run at Miami. Example: Just cause a player looks good at West Virginia doesn't mean he'll look good at Miami.

2. This is gonna happen every year. Miami will pass on a local baller just cause he's 15 pounds too light or 2 inches too short and the kid will go to Marshall and/or Louisville and tear **** up. It's not always Miami's fault though. They can afford to be more selective cause their backyard is loaded with kids who have similar skill sets. Why sign the 5'10" WR at Miramar who runs a 4.4 when you can sign the 6'0" WR at Carol City with the same skills? There's just so many ballers down here that some are bound to slip through the cracks.

3. Player development and scheme. VT takes a guy like Maddy and allows him to play in a 1-gap scheme and pin his ears back. At Miami he'd still be sitting the bench, developing into a 3-4 Defensive End by his Junior year. Matter of fact, he probably wouldn't get offered by this staff because he's "too small".

Honestly, we don't need to be recruiting QB's and O-linemen from South Florida unless we start running the spread. This is not a fertile ground for QB and Linemen. That doesn't mean there's not a few good ones here and there, but we ain't a hotbed for those positions like we are for others. If you only focus on South Florida for QB's and Linemen then you'll probably get yourself fired. Staying in South Florida for ALL positions has NEVER been the recipe for success at Miami. It simply can't work.

Personally, I think we should just be offering the BEST PLAYERS in South Florida, PERIOD. I don't give a **** if they're 5'10" instead of 6'0". I don't care if he's a Linebacker and he's 210 instead of 240.

I want the BEST FOOTBALL PLAYERS and I want SPEED.

Many of those Louisville players would probably be considered "undersized" by our coaching staff and those kids beat our asses up and down the field. (with speed and aggression) All of their DE's were 250 and under. Most of their DT's are under 300. All of their LB's, except one, were 230 and under. Their CB's were 5'9" to 5'11". Same thing with Michigan State and Virginia Tech's defense.

Only so many spots and needs during a recruiting cycle. (20-30 sometimes less) How many SFlorida players earn D-1 scholarships in a year------75+??? There are ALWAYS going to be examples of of "the ones that got away."

Considering the fat on this roster that could easily be trimmed at every single position...I'd take my chances.

With that said, I don't disagree with anything in your post...but the staff gets paid somewhere in the ballpark of a combined four million dollars to get the right guys. It is a results business. Either you get them or you don't. Golden and his staff could have excuse 1-6, but all I still see is Miami as a middle of the pack team with an awful defense while that DT from Delray is a first team All-ACC player and that linebacker from U-School that was dying to be here is an All-SEC player as a true freshmen. Any avenue we go down still ends with the staff being at fault.

I know players get away every year, but if you're Miami and you are no better than average and you're starting linebackers and using running backs from New York or don't have running back or wide receiver depth, what in the **** is going on? That stuff grows on trees in South Florida.
