One more reason for people to learn that some players will give us just one(important) year...

Coach Golden came to this program, and everything wasn’t right,” Lewis said. “He kept his word with everything and has tried to turn things around and help young guys mature. I have nothing bad to say about him.

“I’ve tried to stay focused because it’s easy to go negative. I just want to enjoy my little time left here and cherish it. I’ll put the rest in God’s hands.”

Offensive line coach Art Kehoe, Golden and Hurricanes players have been inspired by Lewis, who reprimands teammates when they need it, then nudges them to go beyond self-imposed limits — even when his role, which includes being part of the “Pride Wall” (for punts) special teams unit, has always been secondary.

“He really put his heart and soul into it this season and has come out of nowhere,” Kehoe said. “He lost some weight, studied the film and has gotten a lot better.

“In our team meeting he told our players repeatedly: ‘This thing seems like it’s forever, but it’s gone so fast. My experience here is finished. I want you guys to know you can’t waste time. You can’t be unaccountable.’

“It has been beautiful to watch.”

Nice story. Very happy for J-Lew, he has some talent. Wish Golden got to him earlier.

On the Hotline today Golden said he wished he had one more year with Lewis. Kehoe said he's playing as well as Linder and Feliciano right now. They both also commented on his leadership role with the team.

Its guys like McGee, Lewis, Jones (before injury), DJ, that show us what we have in Golden already. A lot of people were ready to bury these guys and they have all played some good football this year. **** even Thompkins was ready when his name was called. Can't wait for Golden and staff to get to develop guys for 4 years here, its going to be special.

This right here, shows we have a real program now. A college program

Not a glorified NFL internship where guys count down the days to the next level from the very first day they step on campus

Could say that about a lot of guys, unfortunately.

Not to threadjack but it's one thing I couldn't figure when everyone was up in arms about Briscoe and O'Donnell being moved around.

I'll answer your second question from my perspective. Having followed UM a long time, position changes rarely amount to anything significant. There are certainly exceptions to the rule and these changes are happening early in their careers - that's good. For me, I was hopeful that Briscoe could be that next dominant DT for us. He won't be. Can he be a serviceable OL? I suppose that's fine. Same thing for odonnel. I was hoping he could develop into these mean nasty DEs with a mean streak. Now he's a TE. Can he be a good one? I suppose but it's pure guesswork.

"Do I worry about it? I worry about everything," Golden said. "I worry about all the kids that sit in a room and the staff, our strength staff, our training staff, everybody. When we go on that field, there are usually 240 people on that field. So there are a lot of people involved, a lot of lives involved. But I can see what we're becoming and what we want to do with the program.
"That vision pulls me a little bit stronger than some of these things that try and tear us apart. I think we're here for the right reasons, which is why you have a tendency to dig in and fight as opposed to flight."

Power. Fap.
