ESS 2016 Cornerback write-up....

Man, we've got 2 of the top 8 (should be 3 with Deion Jackson) and a possiblity with one more in Henry Miller. Love it!

Are we still in it for Carlos Becker? Haven't heard much mention of him even with the staff in Orlando a lot recently. Is Henry Miller the only one left of the two we got a chance with? If I did have to choose one it would be Miller, the better athlete and speed of the two. Don't trip, want them both bad, but concerned that I haven't heard anything about Becker since our initial visit after the dead period.

Haven't been mentioned with Becker for a while. Think it's FSU.

Miller and Finley are the main DB's we're after right now and have a legit shot with.

Young looked alot better than Mullen during the Army game and received better reviews during the practices. Again, nobody came close to Byrd.

No offense, but I don't like what I see on their site. ESS seems to imply that they're ranking all CBs but it's just the FL HS kids. Which is fine, but as for instance, there's only 1 FL CB in the first 4 CBs according to Rivals. And I'm not even saying we don't focus on Florida kids, we do and we should but it's not like we have 2 of the top 8 as one poster indicated, we have 2 of the top 8 in FL.

...That said, I'm still seriously impressed with how well Richt is doing after barely a month on the job.

Go 'Canes!

Man, still upset about the Deion Jackson of it all.

So what happened to Jackson??? Why did he leave??

Family issues. Went up to North Florida for the season and didn't play ball, is supposedly back south now. He's said he called Paul Williams to inquire as to his status, but Williams hasn't called him back. Obviously there's a massive disconnect here. The kid seems to be going through some rough stuff in his personal life, and doesn't appear to have the wherewithal to re-connect with Miami or get the attention of other schools. There might also be a question of eligibility, since he's been jumping around schools as of late.

That's all we really know, the details are murky at best. What I do know is that this sounds like a really sad story about a kid who may fall through the cracks and miss out on a potentially bright future.

Banda did in school with Becker last week. So he may be in play? But looks like a long shot.

I don't know where you get the notion that they're ranking nationally. ESS covers FL or at least got their start there. There's the name and school as well, all clearly Florida. Anyhow, carry on.

I wanted Gardner in this class. He is going to be good.

I agree that I like him and wanted him but he's not a pure corner in my eyes. More of a safety/nickel. Which I would be fine with regardless. Little do people know this, but he was #SWAG16 first commitment.

As for how Fishbein rated the corners. Don't agree too much.

Mullen is too high. Yes he has length and speed you can't teach but a bit underwhelming.

Malek is fair where he is BUT he is a better player than some ahead of him(AKA he was a better player than his teammate Mullen). Have to take projection into account though. If he were few inches taller, he would be within top 5.

Byrd is the clear cut #1 and if you check through any of my posts for the past year or so. I've been very stubborn and stuck with that statement.

One thing I noticed and I agree with it. He left Saivion Smith out. I view Saivion as a safety going forward.

I noticed he left James Pierre out too. I view Pierre as a free safety with some duty here and there at nickel.

Deion Jackson has the ability and potential to be the best corner to come out of the tri-county(Dade, Broward, Palm Beach) but we all know what happened with him as I informed people in December. It's a shame cause he had a bright future under the right staff.

Henry Miller would be higher on that list and even my own if he focused solely on defense.

Would rate the top 10. This is based of production and ceiling. Also readiness coming in to college.

1. Tyler Byrd (Can play safety or wide receiver too but his $ position is corner)

2. Aaron Robinson

3. Chauncey Gardner (Nickel/safety is best fit, his straight line speed is dangerous)

4. Carlos Becker (I'll put him here but I'm very positive his future is safety. His speed to size ratio why I put him here. Even though I think he's a safety down the line.)

5. Trayvon Mullen (Mostly potential, has a lot to prove IMO)

6. Deion Jackson (Loads of ceiling. Lot of character questions. If he finds his way and into right hands, could be second or third best on this list in the future with the right teaching.)

7. Malek Young (As a player he's top 5, height hurts him here. Brings incredible value in return game. Personally think he's best pure nickel on this list. Need nickels a lot against most offenses today.)

8. Henry Miller (Would be higher on my list if he focused solely on defense. Think he might be a future safety.)

9. McArthur Burnett

10. Jayvaughn Myers

*** I view Becker and Miller as future safeties. I think Miller a better safety prospect than Becker BUT if both were to be corners. Think Becker would be the better corner.
