Please let them know how you feel. We should match Golden's silence with a flood of e-mails. Here is my e-mail below. Feel free to cut and paste and edit with your own message.
Mr. James and President Shalala:
I am a third generation hurricane alumni (graduating from the law school in 2010) attending University of Miami football, basketball and baseball games with my parents (both alumni) since the late 80s. I now regularly attend road games -- I went to every single game home and away during my third year of law school, and most recently the Russell Athletic Bowl.
The football team helped grow the University and under your leadership the school has blossomed into a top 50 institution. Academics and athletics are not mutually exclusive. A strong football program will up donations across the board and result in additional revenue.
I am frankly dumbfounded that you have not announced a fund raising effort for a stadium (even though no location has been determined). There is no reason not to start earmarking funds for that project and looking towards the future. That investment will be paid off tenfold -- there is a reason why almost every other FBS program has a home.
With that said, I realize that a stadium is not on your radar screen. However, after coach Golden's recent silence -- which is deafening -- finding the new head football coach of the University must be. To that end, hire Butch Davis.
Coach Davis has succeed here before and is driven to succeed again. He restored Miami's image and did things the right way. Please look at his graduation rates and his players track record while they were at Miami, and after they left.
To show my commitment to this process, I will agree to pledge a $1,000 a year to the University of Miami over the next five years if the University hires Coach Davis as its next coach.
Thank you for everything you both do for the University of Miami.
A proud, but concerned alumni,
