@DMoney has repeatedly emphasized that the staff places a premium on senior season evals. This has resulted in offers to previously unknown recruits and/or finding new homes for recruits who's senior film is not up to UM standards. However, something unexpected has happened. After senior evals, we sent out an offer to an elite recruit (Alabama commit Michael Carroll) that wasn't previously offered as part of this senior eval process.

@Gi0logy legitimately asked, why are we offered a well known, elite recruit late in the cycle? Is this the beginning of a trend? Is offering elite recruits late in the cycle an effective strategy? We can discuss and track the effectiveness of this strategy here

Either (a) trying to waste everyone's time or (B) they want the guy and think he might be flipped.

Given the practical nature of this hc, I'm guessing B

Communication and an offer are two different things.
An offer after senior eval is a wise move but of course from an optics standpoint it seems like we are late to the party.

However, how many times have we lost a “lock” a “silent” or even a committed player when a frontrunner comes knocking late. And sometimes way late.

Christian Harris, Marcus Crowley, Jobe

We also have “lost” players that we put a full court press for over a year.

Stevenson
Evan Neal
And recently Jeremiah Smith

Yes we haven’t won at that level but the perception is that we are and will continue to do so.
We are not dealing with a rookie staff when it comes to recruiting. This is Manny Diaz pulling up in a Lambo to mom’s house.

They say “dress for the job you want” and “act like you belong”.

Well we are here and acting like it.

There is no way we have not been in communication with an elite o lineman at img.

And don’t be surprised if some kids that weren’t interested last year and are texting “hey you! U up?

At positions where you take lots of guys, I don’t see the problem shooting a half court shot on an elite hoop. For a QB or something I get how it would be weird and pointless, but if you’re close enough to get a guy to tweet the offer and come on a visit, shoot your shot.

I’ve criticized Mario (justifiably I think) for his failings but he’s not devoid of strengths and he’s won weird battles before. Let him cook. I’m confident that we’re not being out worked out the trail.

It was mentioned and I'm not sure who it was, but they said that CMC, goes after areas or players where they see a weakness in the recruiting approach or coach itself. I think a good example may have been the RB coach at OSU, since we flipped two STRONG players the past two years.

The OL coach at Bama is new to the area and CMC swing a big stick when it comes to recruiting, so maybe he's thinking "let's see how this guy does again the heavyweights", especially for a player they had their eye on and it was confirmed come sr film.

this late in the game they are not going to waste their time with a recruit that will not come, at least thats what I think.

The recruit has to have been receptive to the comms and willing enough to listen to the pitch to not make it a waste of time for the staff.

Unless you have a badge that allows you to enter the offices at Hecht, I don't think anyone can know anything about this. It's odd. It's late in the game. Beyond that? Good luck. Maybe a committed OL prospect's senior eval is looking not so hot so Mario and Mirabal reached out? That's a total guess on my part.

@DMoney in the 9/14 Bank

- I expect a lot movement in the class in the next few weeks. This group prioritizes senior film, so names are going to rise and fall.
