There appears to be advantages and possible disadvantages to early signing period.

Advantages
1.You can concentrate on second group in Feb.knowing you've secured 80% of 2018 class.
2.You can get them into school earlier.Recruits that came in early are player ready whereas
later entries are learning on the job during the season.
3.You as a coach better understand what is left when Feb.rolls around.

Disadvantages
1.If you are getting rid of players on the 17 squad you might run into issues getting early signing
recruits and having to wait till after the Bowls to release players from the squad.
2.There will be schools that oversign;i.e. beyond 85,tying up top end players.Saban is
famous for this.
3.For the player,if he signs early and then his "dream school"offers in Feb.he's probably screwed.
On the other hand,if he waits till Feb.then most major programs filled most of their needs in Dec.

I'm pretty sure your 1st and 3rd points are kind of saying the same thing.

And I'm pretty sure your 2nd point is incorrect. This is only an early commitment date, not early enrolling.

Disadvantage 3 makes no sense imo. If a school hasn't given you an offer before the first signing period it isn't coming. Or if the player likes the school that much just wait til Feb. The school that originally wanted you to sign early will almost 100% have a spot. If they wanted to lock you in early, they'll still want you a month and a half later.

Economically, it pushes brown bag payoffs into Q4 2017 instead of Q1 2018. Christmas sales should get positive push. Pulling that revenue forward could have negative impact on Q1 auto sales but if the big names hold off until later signing period the impact should be eased.

we aren't "cutting" players after the bowl game and before the feb signing period.

the early enrollee thing doesn't matter if they sign early or not.

Nearly every single thing that you typed is based upon an incorrect understanding of the new early signing rules.

I had not considered that possibility. Hmmm, very interesting. Maybe it's some Gaytor troll who is trying to defame Peter Ariz's good name...you are a very smart man, Double D.

Early signing period seems like it's more for the coaches. It will be interesting to see if the kids who opt not to sign early, turn out to be head cases more often than not, like the kids who play hat games at the signing ceremonies, or ***** around committing/decommitting.

Thanks for the post Pete. Seems like you have put some thought into it. We always fret about having room for our class but it always seems to work out. Remember, only a portion of the early signees are early enrollees. That means that we still have the remainder of the school year to make room just as we always have.

Yea. Change ur name! I opened this thinking this thread may contain valuable insight. :jordan:
