DYE and PERRY should be D-ends.

With no depth at DE,Dont understand why 2 of our biggest bodies were moved to TE
considering they cant catch and we dont need blocking TE in this offense as far
as I can tell. Not saying they are world beaters because they obviously are not
but they are big, fast, athletic and being wasted.

There no good at TE. They are 6'6 270 each. We have maybe 1 dend who could play right now. No DTs

Bottom line, they can't play at this level at any position. You're reaching, grasping at straws. No solution here. Two kids we should have never signed, at least one for sure. I guess a case could be made for Dye since he's had some injuries. Perry never had a chance.

Luther Robinson by all accounts of the first game(Yes I know only 1 game) is our best DT

Corch wanted to move him to OL

Dont give me that sports psycholgy crap

Dude wanted him to move to OL

David Perry straight up, aint good anywhere you put him.

Dye is a pretty good blocking TE, but he couldn't see the field at DE when he was over there.

David Perry was heavily recruited by a lot schools, including The great Butch Davis. Kid just hasn't developed, like some many of our other player.

They must be, literally, the worst DE prospects in D1 football to have their size and be unable to compete with the kids we're actually playing at DE. Seeing Dye block sometimes that's hard for me to imagine, but I guess somehow it's true. I think we're close to hanging up flyers around the campus for DEs at this point.

Agreed

Perry probably shouldn't have ever been offered. Man were people wrong about him. That is the problem when you take extremely raw players who haven't played much football growing up. I still remember when Lemonier picked Auburn people claimed it wasn't a big loss because we had Perry LOL More nonsense from people on these boards. There is never no in between. Everything gets spun into the greatet thing ever or a complete diaster.

include lewis and l. robinson to the list. there's a difference between being young and not beating out forston, porter, ojomo, vernon,m.robinson etc. as opposed to being older and not being given a chance to beat out whoever we have now. half these guys should be redshirting or havnt done anything.

Maybe they were no good at DE?

what we got at DE right now isn't good either. but what we got right now besides Chick is undersized and/or too young. If Perry and Dye were kept at DL they both would have gotten experience out of necessity last year once injuries hit. And they both are better suited for the current scheme we use up front on defense that emphasizes size more than speed. Can't tell me these two couldn't do what Grimble, Pierre, Green, Cain, Smith do. could at least go with a bigger front to help against the run. basic physics. 270 just is harder to move than 245 or in the case of some of our freshman 230. Plus when you see both of them block they play with good leverage. Don't think they'd play with good leverage if at DE? people assume they must not have been good at DE cause they got moved. what if the defensive coaches just don't know as much as we think they do? Robinson to OL when you have no one else at DT? DEs to TE when you have no DEs to replace the then current group of SRs? its poor roster management at the least. Can add in telling Nick Menocal that he can't play defense for this staff. Al Groh accepts him and he sees playing time for him but our DC doesn't think he can make a player out of a guy who's coming in at 240 and runs like a deer? Instead they wanted Kinard from Ohio who was tall, skinny, and slow - and had bad grades unlike Stanford and Georgia Tech qualified and recruited Menocal.

nothing can be done about that at this point - and Perry could provide a nice alternative at TE by his SR year, but moves like that helped create the depth issues, the undersized DL, and the lack of experience. all 3 issues would be less of an issue if these moves didn't happen. Still might not be very good on DL but at least would be bigger and more experienced. If nothing else it would allow us to RS a Gabe Terry or McCord so when they do get on the field they are physically ready.

I want to see Dye at DE. He is a big body and should be athletic enough and I don't want to hear that he is not good enough because what we have right now is not good enough so might as well try something different.

Because they don't have technique. It takes more than measurables alone. Heck, Chickillo has good measurables and is relentless, but can't a fight off a **** block to save his life.

but that's part of the point. considering what we currently have...they might never disengage but at least wouldn't be as easy to move out the way as the light in the a$$ guys we got playing DE right now. and might be able to push the blocker back some. would provide more nothing special depth so at least guys don't have to play as many snaps and can be fresh while in there.
