CORAL GABLES — Miami freshman running back Duke Johnson added one of the top honors a young player can earn.
After breaking school rookie rushing records, Johnson was named a freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, as announced Monday morning.
He becomes only the fifth Hurricane to earn the honor, joining teammate Seantrel Henderson who was on the 2010 team.
Johnson was also a first-team freshman All-American as named by Phil Steele and a second-teamer on the CollegeFootballNews.com version.
Johnson finished his freshman season with 2,060 all-purpose yards while establishing himself as one of the nation's top kickoff returners.
His 947 rushing yards broke the rookie record while his 892 kickoff return yards broke school overall marks.
