DT Recruiting

Rousseau gonna benefit greatly from being an EE. He’s gonna be a d end. At this rate, our d ends are looking like 3 and done for guys like joe jack, garvin, dj possibly...

I know this is just for discussion sake but some of you act like the coaches dont get paid to think about these things 24/7 while you are at your 9-5. People crying about DE depth...

Jackson, Garvin, DJack, DJohn and Patchan....Thats a **** GOOD if not ELITE 2-deep and a 5th guy who will be serviceable. Not including incoming Freshmen. What more do you guys want? You think we are going to be legit 3 deep at every position every year like we are at DE now? Sounds like the same people crying about us needing 3-4 LBs this year when we already have 10 going into next year.

Now DT depth all depends on what Norton is going to do. If he stays we are more then fine. If he leaves then guess what..a rotation of Willis, Bethel, Ford, JUCO guy, Silvera isnt bad either. Bethel has already proven he is ready for big time.

And dont talk to me about Willis. Did anybody see him sitting next to McIntosh during the VT game on the bench after McIntosh recovered the fumble and was wearing the chain? Buddy had a look like, "I cant wait to get my a$$ out there next year and eat! That should be ME with that chain on!" It was a competitive looking anger. No like hatin' a$$ Mullins. Go back and look at the tape.

Dont overreact. I like Briggs but he aint plug and play. If he wants to go play in Tally let him go. Getting tired of him and Joyner playing games anyway. Either you in or out. Would rather a JUCO guy at DT anyway.

Agree. DE should be ok with everyone we have returning. DJ and Garvin will get more snaps now that DJax is out. DE will only be a concern in '19 IF IF IF we don't land 2 in '18 (assuming JJackson and DJax depart). '19 is a long way off!

DT will all depend on Norton/McIntosh. If both go, we will need to get more out of the DE and LB groups which should happen. In '17, the front 7 covered the DBs. In '18, the DBs/LBs/DEs may need to cover some for the DTs. In '19, the DL/DBs may have to cover some for LBs...

More concerned about the fact that we only have DJax coming off what looks like a significant knee injury, Joe Jackson, Garvin, and DJ Johnson at DE. Rousseau isn't going to be ready physically year 1 and same for Chatfield if he comes in. Neither enroll early.

Maybe Patchan goes back to DE. But that's 3 guys at DE for the spring most likely. Maybe 5 ready for the season. Ideally you have 6 that can play and 7-8 on the roster that are healthy

Agree 100%. Folks are not worried about the DE position but we lose our 2 deep on the left side. Not easy to replace. Sure, you can say that maybe we move over DJax, Garvin, etc to that side but how realistic is that? Right now, as of the spring, it's DJ and Patchan (if he returns) at LDE. That's not very good depth.

Take Patchan off TE and you have Irving and Polendey until the studs enroll in the summer. We're gonna be thin somewhere regardless. Patchan to DE in the spring.. he's gonna get a ton of reps especially with Djack out and no EE coming in. He could take that next step after all the attention from Kool

Rousseau does EE so scratch that concern. Kool will have him ready

He's severely underweight so I wouldn't pencil him in.

Garvin came in at 6'3 220lbs

Rousseau is 6'5 225lbs already. EE with all the meals he wants, kid could start the season at 240lbs.

Agreed. I wouldn't expect him to come in and excel like Joe Jack or Garvin.

I think everyone is overestimating how high Norton and mcintosh will go in the draft. Only 4 DTs were drafted in the first round in the last three drafts.

Four.

Basically, you have to be considered the best 1-2 DTs in the country if you want any shot at getting that 1st round contract.

This doesnt mean that both juniors should return. If they grade in the top 3 rounds, I think most would urge them to leave early. If they grade in the top 2 rounds, I would revoke their schollies if they tried to come back. Go get paid son!!

McIntosh will go high, imo. 1st or 2d. He's got the length and quickness and speed and power to be a difference maker in the nfl. Can be 3-4 Or 4-3 guy.

Norton is harder to project. Probably round 3-5.

Counting on true freshmen at DT is a recipe for disaster. There aren’t many Ed Olivers out there.

We will need a JUCO dog ready to step in immediately even though they typically struggle too in their first year out of JUCO. Ideally, we luck into a grad transfer who wants to improve his draft stock under Kool.

The key is convincing Norton to stay around for one more year. It's not worth it to leave early only to be drafted in the 4th round or later. Hopefully Kaaya and Yearby are good examples there.

Don't look at the numbers look at the frame. Rousseau is a great prospect to mold not one you thrust into fire.

What's up with Briggs? I thought he was a silent. What is the FSU thing? Oh well. Be a cane or get beat by canes

Agree but would like to add 1 more DE to this class if there is one.

Chatfield

I'm definitely onboard with the Chatfield addition, I wasn't at first but he has really worked his *** off and earned the offer.

I mentioned this in the WEZ, but I'll say it here too. Schematically, getting Norton back next year is more important for the defense than RJ even though RJ is a better player. If Norton leaves early, with Moten graduating, that'll be our top two nose tackles out the door. We'll only have Ford to play NT with most likely Silvera being second string NT.

At the 3-technique we have Willis and Bethel coming back. With Martin behind those two. Norton coming back prevents us from having to put a true freshman nose on the two deep before he's ready.

How is DJ looking like a 3 and done?
