That's 6 bodies. That's not 6 true DTs. Martin hasn't played a snap at Miami. Fines is not a Miami-quality DT. Technically we're at 4.

And Silvera as a true freshman shouldn't be in the 2-deep this early and heavily relied upon; but he's going to have to because the numbers and quality of depth aren't there.

Again, that's your subjective opinion. A lot of people disagree with you. Kool wouldn't have all 6 dressed on gamedays i he didn't think they were up to his standards

You keep confusing numbers with quality depth. We only have 4 projected next year, one of which is a true freshman. The other is a guy who's got strong promise, has played football for 1 year and a half over 4 years.

How much meaningful playing time are the backup guys at dt from clemson getting?...

Albert huggins has 6.5 tfls and 2 sacks on the year.

Bethel has played all season long and has been doing very well. Ford has looked pretty good for a guy who missed all offseason training with the team. I’ve said last year when healthy Gerald Willis was Miami’s most dominant dt last year and Pete echoed that sentiment once again this year a few weeks back. Silvera is arguably the best dt in the country yet he can’t be considered a high level guy? Come tf on...

Nesta isnt a high level college DT. He is a high level recruit. He hasnt taken a snap in college. You dont know if he will be ready day 1.

Not really sure, but Pete verified Goldwire isn't coming, which carries more weight than any rumor would have.

Have either of McIntosh or Norton received any sort of draft grades, or is this just a gut feeling? I'm on record as saying that I think Norton will grade out higher, but neither of these guys are going before the 3rd. I haven't seen a draft analysis that has Norton rated higher than the 16th best DT or projected above rounds 3-5. I also haven't seen RJ rated in the top 25 among draft eligible DT's.

Norton will also only be 20 years old at the time of the draft I believe. The NFL doesn't usually look for babies at the position he is playing. He also had a worse year than his sophomore year. It is an odd decision. Then again the Michael Jackson rumor of leaving is odd too. He's got one year of film. Three underclassmen who weren't dominant and didn't have any draft hype coming into the season are leaning towards leaving. The 2nd team all-american safety has decided to stay. Just wacky

Don't misunderstand. I'm not implying that he won't leave. We seem to have a major problem of guys jumping ship only to be drafted on the last day if at all. I'm wondering if Pete has heard something or if he's seen some legit info that I have not that would change his draft grade. I think it's all fair to say that WE think Norton and McIntosh are big time players for us, or we wouldn't be terribly concerned about them leaving. I also think RJ's athleticism would bump him up at the combine, but how far? I've yest to see him listed in anyone's top 25 draft eligible DTs.

He can play pass downs but you need big nasties eating space .

Everyone's answer for the crappy dt recruiting is to keep sliding de's inside. Or maybe just recruit more Dt's where we aren't in this position.

We're chasing Jucos because of not being prepared for 7 and 80 leaving. Grad transfers is the next option , maybe Uva has another backup to come down and help.

Rj was the 780th rated prospect in 2015.
Norton was the 360th rated prospect in 2015.

Both 3 stars, both totally dismissed by the typical over emotional whining womanly fans on this site.

Now, they are legit nfl prospects as TRUE JUNIORS, the best duo in the country.

Not really true. Norton was thought to be a better G prospect and he didn't have that much film as a DT. Miami was one of the few schools to want him at his preferred position and it was one of the reasons he chose to sign. Auburn and others wanting him at OG was used as a slight at the previous staff. "They got a DT because the other schools wanted him as a guard."

And most people on here thought he was the perfect NG for the D we were running. Nobody trashed the kid.

I didn't say he was trashed but their wasn't some consensus about his potential when other schools with better defenses and coaches wanted him to play OG and not DT. He was a 4-star guard and a 3-star DT. He wasn't considered and elite DT and I don't remember anyone saying he could be a 3 and out guy.

Mostly it was relief that after only having Fines committed that another big body picked us. McIntosh was considered and DE in that defense.

Yes, he was thought of as a guard by the other schools recruiting him, but he was listed as a 4 star DT with ESPN as well, and I was responding to this statement about the two DTs initially, "Both 3 stars, both totally dismissed by the typical over emotional whining womanly fans on this site." and both were generally highly regarded on this site which is what I was claiming. Assorted comments when Norton was being recruited:

Seriously watch his film. Coach George was a **** good DT for Pace. He's already like 260-270. Put 10-15 lbs on him and let him play both ways

Really good point. I asked tweed to get a measurement of realus' wingspan. I immediately thought of a second Nikita Whitlock when I heard he was coming. Nikita was a motherfugging terror for Wake, and realus is actually bigger than him. Just gotta make sure realus has the wingspan to keep guards and centers off of him.

Lawerence wasnt depended on to play day 1. He came in and was just so good they had to play him. The problem is we are depending on freshmen at a tough position like DT to come in and be good right away.
