A local hospital recently had their emergency residency program accreditation and the hospital got inundated with applications from all over the US.
The person in charge said the number was pretty unprecedented for a new program as were the large number of quality applicants that according to their scores and recommendations could get into more prestigious and established programs. The other glaring empty space was the under representation of local graduates compared to those of other cities in other parts of the country.
Applications were over represented by the Midwest and the northeast.
The problem with football is that a Midwest kid might want to come here but our record doesn’t make it worthwhile. I feel that we will continue to struggle with local elite kids until we make the playoffs but will have more success with oos kids if our immediate winning is more consistent.
I know this is an apples to oranges arguement but it still holds that oos young people want to be here more than the locals
And why it’s so hard to keep the local kids even when they’re not elite blue chippers.
It also speaks volumes on the failure of the department not only in football but in all sports. We should be recruiting the fugg out of every elite oos kid in all sports.
