That our special teams could be great this year? I for one expect us to win this battle with exceptional play . Should make a difference in at least 2 games.

I think our offense will be explosive, the strength of this team. Our defense not so good. Worried about too much inexperience up front, the secondary really scares me. Offense needs to carry this team for the first 6 games.

Either way, here's hoping for a few good bounces ours way! Enjoy the ride fellow cane brothers:neonu:

It was probably are most improved unit last year( at least on the coverage side). Just need more big plays in the return game in '12

Our ST was flat out terrible through the Shannon years. Easily our most improved unit. We need to start getting those blocked punts and improve our return game. That's what we use to do when we were a good team.

our STs as a whole was far improved last year and I would expect to see the trend continue this year, and hopefully it spills over into the return game more. as far as the offense and defense, I disagree with you. last year our defense was the exact definition of "bend but dont break" despite having key guys suspended for multiple games and having to rely heavily on inexperienced guys, we still lost all 6 games by 8 points or less. it isnt about yards given up, its about points given up. I dont think our defense is without areas of concern, because DB, especially saftey is an area of great concern, at least for me. I do think that a healthy buchanan and an older and more experienced perryman will be a positive for the LB corps. up front we have depth and kids like chick and pierre are also a year older and more experienced. the key there will be how much production we can get from the inexperienced kids and the health of porter. DB was just awful last year, but corner was especially bad. this year i am less concerned with corner because mcgee and finnie are back and gunter is coming in with JC experience. i would expect howard and crawford to play and contribute, but unlike last year, we wont be forced to rely on them to carry the load at corner. saftey however is a legit concern this year. ive never been impressed with the play of telemaque, i think his biggest asset is that he brings alot of experience to the table. ive never been sold on rodgers. i think we are going to put alot on bush and jenkins, i just hope they are ready.

as for the offense, I dont think that right now anybody can really say its the "strength" of the team. it certainly could be, but right now there are far too many question marks for me to be sold on that. as in any year, i think the offense is as good as the OL allows the offense to be. on paper our running game with james, clements, duke and crawford should be a strong point, but if the OL cant do their job, they become a non-factor, if the OL doesnt do their jobs, the TEs become much diminished as passing weapons because they are then called on more for help blocking, ditto for the RBs in the passing game. for me QB is a concern, right now. both morris and williams have potential and some experience, but as of this moment, i dont think either one is proven as a top QB at this level. again, their level of success hinges on the play of the OL. at WR, beyond hurns and dorsett, we are going to have to rely on an inexperienced group. i think the defense, especially the front 7 will be the strength of the team, and the offense will do whatever the OL allows them to do

the blocked kicks and return game will come. last year our STs were the best they were since soldinger was run off. the best thing about solly was that he demanded every player be able to play STs before getting reps elsewhere and that every RB be able to block before carrying the ball. that was missing until last year, as exhibited by the miserable game streeter had on STs in 2010 (dont remember which game exactly, pitt or clemson maybe)

We didnt even practice special teams under shannon and if we did, it didnt show.

I still think the D and special teams will really determine how many games we win. I am not sold on Morris or the WRs. the TEs and OL give me hope that the offense won't get completely shut down

And I saw James get knocked down like Marvis Frazier anytime he needed to gain an inch way too many times to think we will be able to run., Can't run, can't pass means we need D and special Teams

We haven't had a dangerous guy on returns since Hester/Roscoe

Would be nice to have a guy emerge, even though it isn't crucial. Getting decent/good returns is good enough in terms of field position.

For the last time...Jame was hurt almost the entire year with turf toe so yeah he got pushed around and driving have the ability to drive the ball. Can we move forward now?
