Do we sub as much on defense vs KSU?

I'm going to say no. We are still going to play a lot of kids but I think the coaches have a better understanding of who does best in certain roles and situations to increase the workload on a core group of players.

By no means do I think the staff has it all figured out yet but they know more than they did before BC. Outside of situational role subs we want to keep guys fresh and build depth and experience yet we need to keep confusion and breakdowns to a minimum.

In a way I think this year will consist of a lot of experimentation until the staff settles on the best personell for each package, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The majority of personnel uncertainty is on defense as the offense seems fairly sorted out for the most part.

If you listen to yesterday's Hurricane Hotline podcast of Coaches Golden and D'onofrio, they will continue to play lots of players to keep everyone fresh and develop experience and depth which will pay off in future years, not only in on-field performance, but also in attracting good players who know if they work hard and learn their positions that they will play early and often...and we will develop even more players for the NFL. Golden said even though that is the plan, sometimes it's hard to resist substituting in some situations like Saturday's game when we got down early by 14, but they still did, trusted the players to do what they'd been taught and it paid off. That experience will result in real growth of the players down the road.

Learning on the job getting gashed on D here and there as the young ones learn is what we're in for. Will be interesting to see how much a group can learn, advance, mature from game to game. Buckle your butts for another ride like last week. Can't wait for Saturday.

Probably....maybe....I hope not. At least we will be facing an offense that we faced last year. KS will not be a surprise. Any attempted excuse like "we weren't expecting (fill in the blank)" won't fly this time.

We'll see.

Of course, we did it all of last year. I am sure we will continue to do it this year again. I am torn between it, because on one hand alot of young good players get experience and it will pay off huge down the line. But on the other scrubs who play (I wont name names) now will still be scrubs when they play later. Some guys should not be playing a UM nevertheless starting. Ugh

shortening the rotations will definitely help the defense's communication and alignment

it will affect stamina though

we can go back to playing 24 guys on defense against BCC, **** maybe even more
