Do we stop KSU on 3rd and 10? 3rd and 20? 4th and 10?

We didn't last year (I remember 4th and ten runs for 20 yards,) once! Not once.

We let BC convert about a half dozen third downs when they had more than 10 yards to go.

What is the deal?

The deal is this. If they drop a wide open pass, or the quarterback missfires, or the receiver fumbles after picking up the first down, then yes, we will stop them. Pretty exciting stuff if you ask me.

I actually like this match up early in the season. It will obviously be a big time test on the road and will show what type of adjustments the coaching staff can make not only after the BC game, but a year after facing the KSU offense. Tough games on the road like this give the coaching staff a very good idea who can be relied on.

If there is some good news from the defensive debacle at BC, the mistakes were largely things that can be corrected over time--mental errors. It wasn't like we had guys that were just getting outrun, we have the athletes for the most part. In addition, the defense responded after giving up the first two TD's. I can't imagine our defense will have a worse start all year, at least I hope not. Looking forward to seeing more of Eddie Johnson and Deon Bush.

Agreed. This gives me hope. While we missed a few tackles (notably Pierre in the backfield on consecutive plays) many of BC's big plays came on mental busts...mostly, horrific play by the linebackers (Cookie, Cornelius, Eddie Johnson, etc.). K-State will not "out athlete" us. I'm certain of that. However, I'm not sure our coaches will make the necessary adjustments or that our players are capable of consistently making the correct reads. BC absolutely crushed us with play action and BC's running game wasn't very good. K-State is a different animal when it comes to running the football.

If we can minimize those mental errors on defense, we win. No doubt. I don't think K-State has the horses on defense to stop us.

This has been the most frustrating thing about Miami football over the last 5 years

give me 3rd and 2 over 3rd and 15

Sounds strange but I feel the same way. We appear to be ready for short yardage situations this year but good lord if they have an obvious passing situation we are in trouble.
