Can someone explain why we're often not set on the DL before the ball is snapped? Guys are scrambling around too much.

Is it because the plays are getting in late? Does D'Onofrio micromanage as much as any other DC?

I've been watching Canes football for awhile, and maybe it's the youth or my memory, but I don't ever recall a defensive coach micromanaging on a play to play basis like Coach D.

I have been asking myself the same thing all season and its not like it has improved as the year as gone on.

I believe they shift around based on what the Offense is showing. IF the offense goes to a different look you see guys move around to best match up. It drives me crazy as well. Lets just line up and smash somebody

I said the same thing too. The ONLY guess I can come up with is that they might be trying to confuse the blocking assignments for the OLine? Yes its a stretch but it makes me feel better than thinking that 11 games into the season the defense is having a Chinese Fire Drill 4 -6 times a game.

the D has to identify the weak and strong side of the O formation and adjust accordingly. their reads, coverages, etc are determined by the formation (in terms of weak, strong, etc)

I actually think it's by design to confuse the offense. The funny thing is, I really don't see any difference in the defense when we are or aren't lined. In fact, I've see several nice plays at the LOS when we're lining up just in time.

This. The formation of the OL didn't change from one play to the next >90% of the time.

The surface of the D is just being scratched.

pretty sure that they are usually moving around pre-snap to get in their correct positions wrt to the offensive alignment. i dont think it is an attempt to confuse anyone

Anyone notice that on the blocked FG against SF, Porter moved Chick over so that they both were in new gaps at the last second? Perfect move to find a weakness in the line. Essentially Chick and Porter blew up one guy together to get penetration. Then Chick got the block!

My dad and I joke about this.

I thought Porter got the block. Interesting.

Hey we've blocked a punt and FG this year. Kickoff/punt coverage has been good. Kick return game has been great.

Golden has truly revamped this sector of the team. Very pleased.

Both hands were right there, but pretty sure it was Chick that actually blocked it.

How about the safety sprinting to the open middle before each play- tell me its some stupid attempt to bait them and we arent that clueless.......... ;-p

Yeah..thats the ticket. 11 teams ran the same formations against us 90% of the time.

He didn't say formation... he said formation of the OL.
