Did Butch deserve the banner in 1997?

The banner said "From national champs to national chumps. Thanks Butch."

Butch had the banner flown against him during a 1-4 start to the 1997 season. Included in this 1-4 start was a 47-0 loss to FSU, which I'm pretty sure was Miami's worst loss until the 48-0 UVA loss in 07.

Was the banner justified? Or did the sanctions provide an excuse for the ****show of a 1997 season, as well as his refusal to fire Bill Miller?

His 2 seasons before the banner were 8-3 and 9-3.

1) Coca Cola is bad for your health (unless it's mixed w/ a nice shot of crown royal) and
