Johnson, who is expected to miss spring football after fracturing his right ankle last Nov. 2 at Florida State, is listed by oddsmaker Bovada as a 33-to-1 shot to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy.
Johnson missed five games but still led Miami with 920 rushing yards, with six touchdowns on 145 carries. He also caught four passes for 77 yards and returned 14 kicks for 396 yards. His average of 174.1 all-purpose yards per game would rank fifth nationally if he played enough games (10) to qualify.
The Liberty City native has 3,453 all-purpose yards through two seasons, ranking seventh all-time at UM. He is 941 total yards shy of the all-time program record held by Santana Moss (4,394, set from 1997-2000).
Johnson, whose 1,867 rushing yards ranks 15th in program history, could move into fourth place with a 1,000-yard junior season. He is 1,465 yards from the top of UM’s all-time leading rushing list. The top spot is held by Forest Hill High alum Ottis Anderson (1975-78).
To win the 2014 Heisman, Johnson might have to surpass a few of the names who were in the 2013 race, including Oregon junior quarterback Marcus Mariota, Ohio State senior quarterback Braxton Miller and the winner, Florida State sophomore quarterback Jameis Winston
Florida State QB Jameis Winston 2/1
Ohio State QB Braxton Miller 4/1
Oregon QB Marcus Mariota 4/1
Baylor QB Bryce Petty 15/2
Alabama RB T.J. Yeldon 15/2
UCLA QB Brett Hudley 12/1
Michigan State QB Connor Cook 12/1
Georgia RB Todd Gurley 12/1
South Carolina RB Mike Davis 15/1
Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon 16/1
Notre Dame QB Everett Golson 25/1
Oklahoma QB Trevor Knight 25/1
Florida State RB Karlos Williams 28/1
