2026 Derrek Cooper RB/ATH from Chaminade

Myles Jack did it a bit at UCLA.
That's still a little different seems like Travis never came off the field. Cooper could get carries but think he would still need to pick a primary position.
Jack got 38 carries as a freshman 20 something as a sophomore and season got cut short his junior year with a MCL. For reference Ajay Allen got 24 carries this year and seemed like he barely got carries.

RBs get the ball way more than WRs like travis hunter did so not sure how that would work
I have to imagine the master plan for Mario on O is to keep the running back room a legit four deep like it was this year (and even though it didn’t always seem like it based on game to game workload).

Obviously we don’t appear to have that before the spring portal window for ‘25 but I think that playable depth has to be part of the plan moving forward because it was, in my opinion, **** effective this year.

Given how RBs will (and should) portal out if they aren't receiving RB2 workload by their Jr year (and should enter draft if they are draftable after Jr season) I would be shocked if we didn't sign 2 RBs every HS class. It just makes way more sense. There should be ZERO expectation for any HS Recruit at RB to stick around on this team past a RS So season unless they are LOCK for RB2 or better type of workload. Simple as that.

2 HS Rbs every year.

I think it makes a lot of sense. And ideally you have that mix of one from each class making a contribution and two from the same class of either sophomores or freshmen in a four deep if you're sending your junior rb1/rb2 to the draft (because they have enough production even as a two to get drafted).

I get that’s pie in the sky and asking a lot, (sustaining that would be incredibly difficult) but I think all of our top four from this past year are pros in some capacity, including Allen. If you are able to get a few years of proving the model, it should make it more palatable as a recruiting pitch, especially with the increased recognition among recruits and parents of the wear and tear demanded of the position.
