Safety Deon Bush says he still "can't really" put a percentage on how close he is to full strength coming off summer hernia surgery.
But with a couple of games now under his belt he says "You know, I'm really progressing each week, am getting better. I'm feeling good each week.
"I have to still keep on progressing."
How tough has it been mentally for him having to sit out and rehab much of the fall?
"It's pretty tough, but I'm just fighting, trying to get better each day," Bush said "It's in the past right now. I am just looking forward to what I can do in the future right now."
With a physical Georgia Tech team up next, the Canes will need a healthier Bush and his physicality on the field.
"They have a great running game," Bush said. "They're a high run percentage team. We just have to be disciplined. They're just a great team."
Bush says after facing the Yellow Jackets last year as a freshman "I have a better clue of what I'm expecting to see. I have a game under my belt playing against them already, and that helps a lot."
Bush is asked what would make this a successful game for the defense. His response: "Whatever it takes to win. That's what we have to do."
What is the team's approach for the ACC opener?
"Every game is a must win," Bush said. "We take that attitude. We're preparing the same way. Obviously there's a little more at stake, but we still have to prepare the same way."
Bush said the team isn't looking ahead at anything more than the upcoming opponent.
"We're just taking it one game at a time," he said.
