Dennis Briggs

Much better DTs out there

Lets not get it twisted now this kid is the goods especially if Kool coached him, he can run and I mean run he sort of like RJ

RJ was like 270 at that point in his career, this kid is like 252. I always thought Briggs was a bit of project trying to put on weight while maintaining his quickness to play DT. That scenario has many unknowns but a project I trusted Kool to take on.

But whatever, he obviously doesn't want to be here, so *** him! The only way I keep recruiting this d-bag is if we can't find any other DT's that want to commit (not likely).

And if were to continue this charade I tell him if doesn't sign early we are moving on all together.

We are all for flipping a bunch of their recruits but not for continuing to recruit one that was leaning towards them? It ****es me off also that he was leaning towards FSU. Joyner, Gainer, Louis all ****ed me off committing to FSU. But those were our top targets and Briggs was a top DT target. I want the top kids at each position.

Sounds like UM may have moved him down the priority list and they weren't getting played, according to Ivins.

If Briggs is 255 now, he'll easily be 280+ in a couple years. That's plenty big for a 3 technique in our system. The 3 technique is not a bulky NT type.

I thought RJ weighed more like 240-250 in the fall of his SR year of H.S. But regardless, kids usually grow a lot (weight) from 17/18 years old to 19 or 20 years old.

This kid was doing more than "leaning towards" FSU according to that 247 interview. He stated that he was planning on committing to them. Given that in the past there has been a history of FSU coaches and recruits working together to tie up spots in rival team's recruiting classes by using fake silent commits and phony recruit interest and then having them flip on NSD I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume that this was one of those situations.

I’m not on twitter. Let the young guys do their thing. Would love to see lingard call him out.

WTF is wrong with you? Lo isn't the ******* recruiting Joe Clark of the Twitter halls.

Relax. He seemed like one who liked calling recruits out like he did with gainer.

The 3 technique definitely doesn't need to be the 340+ Lbs NT in this system but should probably be around the 300 lbs mark to hold the point of attack on running downs.

Regardless putting 30-40 pounds of good weight is not an easy task and takes some developmental time.

RJ was 270 at the time of signing day 2015. Much easier for him to get to that mark of around 300 pounds (he is 293 at the moment).

#WelcomeToTheU: National Signing Day 2015 - University of Miami Hurricanes

Briggs size is much more comparable to Pat Bethel (who is a project at this point at DT) in HS than Mcintosh.

Our coaches seemed to start focusing on other players recently and the kid hasn't been visiting. I think they realized he intended to sign with FSU. I think it's a bigger stretch to assume this was a plan he had made with the FSU coaches to make Miami look bad. They haven't been recruiting for over a month. If it was, and the coaches read what he said. They probably won't continue to recruit him and I would agree with that.

BUT if it was a kid who was sucked in to Jimbos lies and felt more comfortable with the FSU staff. You push for his commitment, the staff really liked him and you shouldnt abandon your recruiting board over hurt feelings.

Cue the “you can’t just recruit guys who love UM” morons.

I say fck Briggs. I never bought into this dummy being a UM inevitable commit. When things are rolling like they’ve been rolling here, and the guy still doesn’t jump on board then you know something is up.

same reason i dont understand the optimism on Joyner the linebacker as well

Briggs is from Kissimmee and Joyner is from Miami. That in itself is a HUGE difference.

I don’t get the optimism with Joyner either. And I don’t get why we are so obsessed with him either.

But both have had the same type of mannerisms and actions when it comes to talking about and supporting their FSU recruitment and/or commitment.we may still get Joyner now that Jimbo hadn’t took off but I honestly don’t think we would have if Jimbo hadn’t bolted...

I don't either. I have yet to see him drop back in coverage that is essential for a Manny defense that prefers staying in base sets even with 4 WR on the field.

Agreed. I don't trust kids like Joyner and Briggs. Would love to have them, but I know better.

Peter Ariz - any comment here? I was kind of thinking he was in. Were coaches confident? If so, back up plan? Thanks!

People were just acting like homers. While he never necessarily tipped his hand before this that he was all FSU, he definitely didn’t tip his hand that he was Miami. He had two main schools going neck and neck by all reports, Miami and FSU.
