Defensive End recruiting

Man I am really starting to doubt the assessments, recruiting of the defensive personnel. This wont get it done. It's okay to not like Bonnito but when Joyner is the LB, it's head scratching

You may have been told that but that statement strains credulity. It's less than a month away from signing day...at this point in time, if we were in it for top-ish rated guys, you'd be hearing about it by now. Based on what you say, my fear is that we are going after plan C guys or pie-in-the-sky guys that we don't want to get public b/c they are (possibly) committed elsewhere. The latter never works out.

Not many great ones left. Feels like as good as early signing period was for us, it's also going to make things difficult when attrition/misses in recruiting happen in December/January.

He played defensive end and LBer. He's 6'3" 206. I'd say he could easily add 20-30 lbs and be a 3rd down rush end. In any case with Ownes gone we have space for another LBer.

This staff missed on Assante because they waited to offer and had "better prospects" etc.

I don't know who is recruiting defense but it is concerning.

yea, this isn't going well. Our Defensive Line recruiting better improve drastically (and like right this moment) or we are not going to get to where we want to be. JJackson could very well be leaving early next yr (We can't keep our marginal draft eligible players, no way we keep top end dudes). Demetrius graduates. We could be looking at a depth chart in 2019 of Garvin (stud), Rousseau (who knows, though I think he will be a beast), Patchan (broken), Chatfield (maybe - and he's undersized) and true freshmen. That's not going to win you an ACC title, nevermind a national championship. DT is a whole other issue. A 2 year haul on the D-Line of Garvin, Rousseau, Chatfield (maybe), Ford and Nesta , while all quality, is just downright unacceptable in numbers. That is going to kill the momentum in getting the program back to where we all want it.

This is what happens when you have a coach who's openly stated he hates recruiting, no LB coach, and two guys learning on the job.

That's why I don't get the obsession with skill players. We are most out matched in the trenches. Once goldens recruits are gone can we say we are better in terms of recruiting d line unfortunately not. It seems only butch emphasized the d line in recruiting.
 
Patchan will be back at DE I’m sure. He looked good when healthy. You got Djack, Garvin, Jojo and Patchan to go with some freshmen coming in. We should be good barring injury. The DE Loss is on par with losing Owens, in my opinion, just some unproven talent behind the studs

Trenches is where you win nattys, seems like Dl is heading in wrong direction. More talent leaving than coming in.

pretty much what it is. They are getting caught d(ck in hand currently. At this point gotta go Juco or just eat it. Thats how you end up with the Tyriec Martin's of the world

So now we're down on the whole defensive staff's recruiting ability? So does that mean you don't like the players we got last year and have signed this year right? All because they don't want Bonnito, who FSU and UF don't want either?? And we're going to use Oklahoma for the bench mark of pursuing their defensive commits/targets because their D is a perennial power right? Just trying to keep up with the ever changing narratives of CIS.

When we close strong in February, I expect there to be a lot of crow eaten on here. But they will be too busy pounding the table for their guy, or to take some JAG just to say we hit some imaginary number that we can't be successful unless we hit. As if in a year or 2 we will only have 2 Lbs, 1 DE and negative DTs on the roster. Y'all need to tighten tf up.

Well, the #1 guy we got last year announced he's transferring and our 2 primary DT are likely headed to the NFL. So yeah, we've under recruited on the DL. I'm not sure how you've missed our depth chart but it's widely discussed and factual.

remains to be seen if this staff can close strong . Didn’t last year even though it seems like they really thought they would #WatchTheFinish . It’s ok to be realistic sometimes and base expectations off of facts and not hopes

Jesus your statements are full of straw men and innuendos. They did a poor job of closing last year and while they did ok so far this year we are still in need of several prospects to have a truly solid defensive class. Defensive line has been especially poor. Given that they did not close particularly well last year it does make people a bit cautious. Offensively on the other hand we have recruited much better.
