Although thin & young, I still think they're gonna be okay. My question is, "Who's gonna be the on-field leader? I guess Chick or Pierre.

DP, chick, Pierre and prob Bush.... trying to be realistic with myself, if we can cut our #90th or whatever horrible ranked D we had last to a top40 D, i think we will be very happy. Our O "should" be insane this year.

Leadership will come from Perryman(at least it should). He is the best player on that side of the ball. As usual the DL will dictate how good the D will be.

Perryman and Chickillo are the leaders of this defense. Porter is a senior and needs to step up and stay healthy. All these young guys need a vocal leader to get in their ears when they are messing up, give them praise when they do something good, and motivate them as a whole. IMO, the talent is there. We still lack depth but the talent is there. These guys need to show heart and determintation to want to dominate every play. Something we have lacked the last decade. Our front 7 has the talent to be great. They do their jobs and it makes the young secondary's job a lot easier.

Perryman.

But I also think that Gaines is going to be the player this year that takes that unexpected next step, i.e Brandon Mcgee. He has the experience and showed flashes last season. Hopefully he is confident and plays fast this season.

While those two are the true leaders on the defense, I see Figueroa taking on a lot of that role as well. It seems to be a natural part of his personality.

Bush.

Best player on this defense and he plays with little regard for his well being. His intensity is going to spread.

Perryman and Chick are probably the leaders emotionally but Bush is the guy that will start leading by example and just become the player everyone looks to.

Agree with you and WhatTheHell Bush plays with an intensity that should spread to the rest of the defense.

Bush doesn't strike me as being too vocal. Ditto for Perryman.

One guy who never shuts up is Curtis Porter. Kid loves to talk.

I'm actually pretty optimistic. I think we have a pretty good starting lineup and at most spots our 2 deep is reasonable. DL, I think just being a year bigger and older with everybody back will have to help a little, plus hopefully Gilbert, Bond, Derosier, Kamalu, AQM have something to offer, if not just taking some snaps from poor Chickillo, who was dog tired last year and you can't blame him for that. DT, we have 3 pretty good ones so lets see if somebody else can at least get to the point of being servicable. I think Moore is probably the best bet.

LB worries me, I trust Perryman, Gaines, and Figs, and then its a real crapshoot.

DB should be solid.

I say we let these guys be our starters

Cornelius
Gaines
Shayon
Cain
Rodgers
Robinson
Porter
Gilbert
Dye
Highsmith
