Every athletic tall kid plays both ways in HS and has nice highlights on both sides of the ball. If you notice...kid plays with a very high pad level. With that said, I hope the staff feels he can contribute this year and I hope he takes the opportunity seriously this off-season.

Probably due to the prior regime being such a miserable fail at recruiting and the TE position lacked anything somewhat resembling depth

2012 (Sophomore): Played in nine games, mostly on special teams ... Did not record any stats.

2011 (Redshirt Freshman): Saw action in five games, mainly on special teams.

2010 (True Freshman: Sat out first season at Miami and participated on practice squad, redshirted to retain eligibility.

High School: Three-star recruit and No. 39 defensive end by Scout.com ... Ranked No. 115 on ESPN Top 150 ... No. 94 prospect on Bill Buchalter's Florida Top 100 State List ... Named first-team All-Broward by Sun-Sentinel and Miami Herald... Played defensive end and tight end and recorded 12 sacks as senior.

This guy is 6'7" 265lbs, ridiculous wingspan--he could be somewhat disruptive. It would certainly help.

Heck if the kid can just learn to put his hands up he will be disruptive..... But those highlights were meh.... I didnt see anything liek a good pass rush move. I saw a kid bigger than everyone else. I would be willing to be guys like Bunche and SH just swallow him up.... But heres to hoping he can find a way to contribute.

Should have never received a scholarship to Miami. Hope the kid puts in extra work and proves me wrong. We'll see...

From what I recall, at the time, he was considered a raw project type.

He's a decent enough athlete; I just don't know if he can crack the 2-deep.

And cyber is right. Kid plays stiff and upright.

If an athletic 6-7 kid couldn't crack our TE rotation last year then GTFO

Maybe he has hands like Dyron Dye, meaning no hands at all.
I for one was happy to see Dye back to defense. Anytime they threw the ball at him, even if it hit him in the numbers, it was a coin flip whether he caught the ball or not.

I will say when I saw Perry in the spring, I thought he was definitely worth keeping on the roster. Huge huge kid with room to grow and looked to have some athleticism but it just doesn't seem to be there on the field for him.

I like Dye on defense as well. We need grinders to ease the workload on Chick and Green. Outside of those two we have a lot of raw athletes out there, but not too many bodies that can get in there and get dirty. When you have Green play as many snaps as he did last year, something must be done.

The only time I can remember seeing Perry ever is when he is jogging out on to the field in one of the UTough videos...and he looked like he was about to fall over. Probably not a good indicator of anything but maybe he just isn't that athletic.

i think both him and Dye were 4 stars coming out.

No. Dye was. Perry was not. 3* I think. And that was likely because UM offered.

Surprisingly enough, ESPN had Perry as a 81 4 star, which was an even higher rating for ESPN at the time.

the write up they had on him...

Perry is a prospect with some exciting upside. Perry has limited experience playing football, but displays a good feel for the game and has plenty of room to keep getting better. He has a tall, lean and rangy frame. He will need to keep filling out his frame, once he gets into a college weight program, but has nice size potential and on film looks to have a really long reach. He displays good quickness off the ball. Despite his build and lack of experience, he shows he can play with leverage. He does need to watch his pad level because he can be pushed back when he gets tall, but displays that he can fire off the ball low. He flashes the ability to use his reach, but needs to be much more consistent using his hands to separate from blockers. Displays a solid feel for doing some of the little things well, despite being fairly green to the game. Displays the ability to squeeze down or rip and get re-directed. He is a solid wrap-up tackler. Displays good speed, but needs to work on his angles of pursuit and open up a little more. He pursues to the ball, but can seem hesitant and unsure at times and needs to close better. He is cut a bit high and can seem a little rigid when he quickly needs to change directions. Has nice potential as a pass-rusher. Will try and use his weapons to punch and work around the blocker, but needs to be more violent with his hands and needs to just keep developing his pass rush ****nal and learn to have a plan. Will try and use his build to disrupt throwing lanes by getting his hands up, but needs to learn to be more selective in doing so. You like that he is thinking of getting his hands up, but needs to learn to wait until the optimal time and focus on closing on the quarterback. Perry is not a bad football player considering his lack of experience, but his upside and build make him an intriguing and potentially very good prospect. Player to watch and see what kind of strides he makes as a senior with another season under his belt.
