DC Candidates

they are giving him credit for doing bad his first year and then halfway correcting it, and cherrypicked one metric lmao

2022 - illinois was 2nd in scoring defense under walters

2023 (henry) - illinois is 83rd in scoring defense

2024 (henry) - illinois is 40th in scoring defense

woohoo! he tanked it to 83 and got halfway back to what he inherited while playing this hilarious schedule of bad offenses

Happy Season 15 GIF by The Simpsons

If Mario had half a brain he woulda fired Guidry after the Syracuse game and hired Walters

But now folks are trying to talk ourselves into hiring Walters’ understudy…. Par for the course with Mario

1. Tim Banks (reportedly turned us down according to nakos from on3) - likely will end up at clemson
2. Tyler Santucci from GT was listed as a potential person to keep an eye on by some beat writers

Aaron henry has been mentioned on the boards, haven't seen anywhere else thankfully as he would be a nightmare

then... zilch
neither banks nor Santucci were offered

plz share

Cristobal: “so what do you think?”
Banks: “Sounds like a great job.”
Cristobal: “Before we talk money, there is one condition for the job. You don’t get to hire anyone. You will inherit all the coaches that failed to do their job. Find a way to make it work.”
Banks: “That makes no sense. The defense was historically awful. It cost you a shot at the ACC championship game and the playoffs. I’m sure Jason Taylor is a nice guy but the DL getting zero pass rush is a big reason the DBs struggled so much. And the others weren’t much better.”
Cristobal: “You think you’re smarter than me? I don’t think this job is for you.”

Hence no offer.

I wonder how much the staff forced retention thing is conjecture or reality. Lord knows the sport has a lot of groupthink

Coaching is funny they all have to carry their baggage (friends/coaches) because they’ll carry them hopefully one day and it’s a brotherhood I guess

Mario with his social media/head of recruiting
Golden with Dorito
Richt with his own son
Etc

the only one i get is that its tough to fire your own kid. the rest are just excuses for stubbornness

So I’m kinda a stats nerd and I’m going to drop this. I am by no means trying to sway anyone’s opinion but just figured I’d share some stats. I try to remove my fandom when I do this as I track a lot of stuff. I have more stuff for general cfb if anyone cares.

This is a good look at each coach after 3 full years.

I took a look at each coach and their progress from year 2 to year 3, then specifically year 3.
There's a reason why the previous coaches were fired. In AG and RS’s case, year 3 to year 4.
Just about every metric listed favors one coach in year 3.
