It’s something Davon Reed never dreamed of as a kid but will become a reality when he suits up for the Puerto Rican national team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“I never even thought of playing in the Olympics, but it was always something that I watched growing up,” Reed said. “I don’t even know how to put it into words, but it’s more than anything I could have ever imagined.”

Great write-up, @DMoney , I'm so happy for Davon. The ATL Miami Alumni Association went out to a Hawks game a couple of years ago and got the chance to meet Davon and Bruce.

Now I'm rooting for the USA to win gold, Puerto Rico to win silver, and Guam to win bronze.

It’s so odd that Puerto Rico still has a team. It was grand-fathered in before rules changed to independent countries/territories only.

So rules allow for anyone whose grandparents/parents (Davon Reed scenario - grandfather) were born in Puerto Rico to try out for the national team.

Obviously, these players generally aren’t good enough to qualify for Team USA 🇺🇸. Apparently, Carmelo Anthony is the biggest known name that would have qualified in the past. Currently, it is Devin Booker. JJ Barrea and Jose Calderon are probably the best known players born on the island of Puerto Rico. The current PR roster has 9 players who were born in the USA playing for them and 1 Cuban who become a naturalized citizen of PR.

Funny, that some people forget that Puerto Rico is actually a part of the (US).

There have. been some very good players with PR ties. In Miami circles, you can't forget about Guillermo Diaz. Also, Carlos Arroyo and "Picolin" Ortiz are probably somewhere saying don't forget about them as well.
