I am not from South Florida. I was born and raised in Palatka FL (by St. Augustine). I am wondering what kind of influence does David Cooney have among South Florida football players. Thanks.

Pope influence ........pope
 
Quite a bit. I don't think it was really put to the test, but if Pope or Wiggins ever really wavered I think he would have really been the difference.

His brother still coaches and is on Pete's podcast. You know he is gonna help us be in contact with guys and help put in good words.
 
Palatka is in the boonies and 100% Gator. How was a Canes fan raised there?

P town - played baseball there for saint johns st. Love them country girls, still waiting on Morris to offer haha. Yep a lot of gators up there, I was there for the Berlin come back. **** was great, put a baseball through my room at halftime
 
He’s a good guy and everyone trusts him. He’s as important as any coach on the staff. He truly has the most credibility on the recruiting trail. Perfect hire
 
My parents died in a car accident when I was four. I was then raised by my maternal grandparents who moved from Hollywood, FL to adopt me, brother and sister. My grandfather was a huge Hurricanes fan back when he was a kid watching Jack Harding be the head coach and athletic director at Miami.

Palatka is Gator country. I was still in Palatka during the "Comeback" by Berlin. I was also at the game in G'ville when Miami whipped that *** in 2002.

Cooney's had more value to Miami as an assistant at SR and a 7 on 7 coach, where he had daily contact and could influence players and families
and steer them to Miami. 7 on 7 huge recruiting tool for high school coaches which is what got him to SR in the first place.

Whatever happened to Palatka HS football?
They were so good back in the early 1980s with John L. Williams, Jarvis Williams, Daryl Oliver,etc.

Palatka High School football was good until 2004 when long time coach Jim McCool retired. Palatka was always considered to Eva “talent rich school. Darryl Oliver, John L Williams, Kevis & Trevis Coley, Darcy Johnson, Mario Jackson, Willie Fells, Charles Sharon, Jeff McCool, and Willie Offord signed D-1 scholarships. Under McCool PHS, won 8 district titles and won state when he was the assistant. They just hired Willie Fells to come back and serve as the head coach after burning through 6 coaches in 13 seasons.
