Dark side of Nil

I get it but these players are worth what someone will pay them. They can stick around for love of the game but push come to shove $200,000 is a lot of money.
I don’t think he’s necessarily talking about the money people are willing to pay, but the deals they’re making with shady handlers and agents that’s the problem.

Tiny violin for the “kids”. The best lessons are learned first hand. No doubt all these “kids” have been warned about this by their schools/coaches. Of course the schools/coaches being raided are trying to protect their rosters so it’s not a selfless act but that doesn’t make it less true.

Yeah none of this was going on before that **** NIL

It was like this back in the day:

Street agent:
“Ay yo, what can u do for my boy if he commits?”

School:
“Well, I’m not sure I can answer that besides telling him about our athletic program & the fine education he’ll get; but, uh er ruh ummmm, let me introduce u to Jack. Jack is one of our most influential alumni here, & he can tell you about all of the benefits of joining our program both on & off the field.”

Jack:
“Yes, yes…our alumni association is strong & we’re always here to help young athletes navigate through the financial struggles that come with being a starving student and athlete. Why don’t we go out to dinner, my treat, & we’ll talk more in detail. Ooops, I seem to have to lost a couple hundred dollar bills somewhere around here; if u see it, keep it (wink, wink)

Jack:
“Whoops; I’m sorry for that trash bag underneath ur seat. U can just sit it next to u while we talk opportunities.”

Kid commits for 3 yrs & it’s a wrap. Now, the agents r pimping them every year, & often times these kids get stuck & lose it all. That’s the difference, & that’s the problem.

The NCAA doesn't have much power left, but they do have the power to change transfer rules. Its the only thing that can slow the constant pimping.

They can change it back to players having to sit a year if they transfer.

They could also alter it. Maybe to something like.. players would have to sit a year if they transfer before their second year in college.

Yeah they'd probably get taken to court, and the B1G/SEC will threaten to break away. But what else is new?

Not to this level. At absolute worst just before the start of NIL, the supposed top tier bag payments were $300K. Forward five years and an incoming USC freshman is getting $2M per year. And there are some teams that would happily pay Jeremiah Smith $4M to leave Ohio State.

Make it so that a student cannot transfer until year four. Whatever school they sign with, they are locked in at for three years.

They quite literally can not do this lol

If a kid commit to a school they should be required to be there 2 years minimum before portaling out.

I liked it much better with just the bag man. Everyone knew it was going on, and everyone accepted it. This portal nonsense and NIL is terrible. I know the kids deserve something, and I'm a fan of capitalism, but the current state of college football ain't it

There's black money and white money... that's where kids can get in trouble as these shady agents are likely to be hauled in by the FBI at some point...

I know not to this level that’s not what my point was

These people getting up in arms about it now but noone was saying anything back in the day

It’s human nature you give people some leeway and they take 2x, 5x, 100x whatever they can get away with

So they moved the scale but it’s still the same but @Rellyrell already covered it

The NIL should use Legal Drug Money as its soundtrack (IYKYK)
