DAILY DEBATE: What player needs to step up most the rest of the season?

I know he is not a player but everything rides on Lance Guidry. Nobody seems to know what to do out there on the back end and nobody sets an edge up front.

Actual players. Any one of the Safties.

I would say the secondary, MLB, and a shocker to many Cam Ward. I truly don't care about his stats but as the competition has become stronger he is no longer Superman. I expect him to have a big game against Wake. My assessment is that over the past several games he has made a slew of bad passes missing receivers many times., not seeing the open receivers, and taking way too long to throw the ball.

One player?
1a. Powell

Syracuse leads the country in pass attempts per game.

SMU’s QB will throw the deep ball (it seems) every series. He’ll hit his share of those. They’re 8th in the country in ypa.
….aaaaaand in the running game he needs to get Smith on the ground when he comes his way.

Kiko would be 1b.

Secondary but I feel like they are what they are at this point. Bain and Baron stepping up helps with sacks/pressures and less time for receivers to expose our secondary

Kiko!!!!!

Bain. He has been a little disappointing this year and he seems to be the player that can infuse some energy into the Defense with some of the big plays we were used to seeing in his Freshman year. Still think he is playing out of position. Really think he would disrupt offenses as a 3 technique DT a la Aaron Donald.

Combo of Kiko and Bain. Both have the ability to be much better. Kiko needs to be sent on more blitzes up the middle. He has a knack for getting in there and disrupting plays.
Bain needs to lose 15lbs if he has any shot of improving or move him inside.

I don't think any one player can solve the issues we have on D.

But it would be a huge plus to see Zaquan Patterson become the alpha on the back end. Our D improves tremendously with a high level strong safety cleaning up plays for 4/5 yard gains instead of 50 yard house calls.

I also would like to see Alston back and take control of the DE spot across from Bain. If he can step up and apply some pressure it would make a world of a difference.
