The Miami Hurricanes have set their focus on the upcoming season, with head coach Mario Cristobal addressing the media today on the recent progress, player performance, and the competition witnessed during the training camp.

At a scrimmage held last Friday, the defense outplayed the offense early on. However, by the second half of practice, the offense showed its mettle, scoring some explosive plays. The teams squared off well against each other, making it a back-and-forth affair. Cristobal commented, "Both of them did fairly well versus each other and probably split the downs on short yardage and goal line in the red zone."

Despite school starting, Cristobal emphasized the continued importance of the ongoing training, stating, "Today is as if it's Camp. I know school has started, I know we're two weeks out, but we still use today and tomorrow to go University of Miami against University of Miami."

In terms of player health, the team appears to be in good shape, with Cristobal noting that, unlike last year, they haven’t faced any severe injuries. “We have had a physical Camp. It's structured that way; that blueprint has stood the test of time,” said Cristobal.

Discussing the transformation since the previous season, Cristobal mentioned the emphasis on continuous growth. "We're always building. Whether we have a seasoned team or a new one, we're just focused on getting better,” he said.

Players like Jalen Rivers and Damari Brown received special mentions. Rivers has shown excellent versatility, excelling in various positions.

"Jalen Rivers has shown impressive adaptability on the field. He's really excelled at all five positions, a rarity in the game. He embodies exactly what we want in a player, not just in terms of skill but also his approach and dedication to the game."

"Damari Brown is a force to be reckoned with. He's a physical, fast player who truly understands the intricacies of football. Coming from a high-level training background, he has showcased a profound knowledge of our strategies in the secondary. The determination he brings, especially as a freshman, sets him apart. He's eager, fearless, and poised to play a pivotal role for us this year.

Looking at the offense, the coach commended the progress of running backs like Ajay Allen and Mark Fletcher. “They’re complete backs,” Cristobal commented, appreciating their comprehensive skill sets. He also noted how competition has spurred improvement, especially in the running back position.

Although Cristobal was asked about Allen and Fletcher, he wanted to go out of his way to compliment the duo of Don Chaney and Henry Parrish as well.

"Our running back group, particularly with talents like Don Chaney and Henry Parrish, has showcased tremendous growth and commitment. Don has had an outstanding camp, and the progress Henry has shown is commendable. Their combined skill, along with the competition they've brought, has elevated the entire position. We're optimistic about the depth and diversity they bring to our offense."

While the training camp is drawing to a close, Cristobal revealed that the team is not planning any walkthroughs at the Hard Rock Stadium this week. "The stuff that we do pre-game, we'll do it right here," he confirmed.

On the topic of run defense, Cristobal said, "Technically, I think we're better up front. Schematically, it lends to what we are, fitting our personnel. The guys we have are powerful, but fast…real quick.”

Also of note, freshman RB Chris Johnson and DL Akheem Messidor are both back practicing fully after previously getting “banged up”.

Well done. Appreciate the update for real. Go Canes 🏈

I hate to ask this, but not that we are a week and a half out, have there been any rumors on suspensions for the upcoming games?

Edit: If the answer is something to the effect of 'yes, but Mario wants to keep it quiet to not give opponents an advantage' so be it.
