2014 RB Dalvin Cook of Miami Central is arguably the top prospect in South Florida for the upcoming class. He also happens to be committed to Clemson, which is something that Miami is still working on changing.
“Miami is number four right now. It’s Clemson, Alabama, USC, and Miami,” said Cook.
In the past months when I’ve spoken to Cook, he made it clear that Miami was right up there with Clemson. What has changed?
“They just have to keep recruiting me. I talked to Coach Coley once at one of their junior days. I haven’t talked to the new running backs coach yet, though.”
This is where the twist comes in. I called Cook to get his reaction on teammate Joseph Yearby flipping to Miami today, and he didn't even know it had happened until I brought it up.
“What, really? I didn’t know that. When did that happen? Wow, that’s a big one. I’m just hearing that from you now.”
So just as he had named Miami as his number four school, it seems like Yearby’s commitment could positively affect Miami’s chances.
“That could affect my recruitment. We talk about playing with each other. It would just be special to a program to have both of us there. I’m going to talk to him more about it now.”
