Looks like this team is getting tore down to the studs, we need to have realistic expectations for next season. In my opinion finishing with a winning record should be the goal. We are basically going to have a brand new team.

Lucas is getting a $8 mill NIL budget. That is top tier. I will guess that is top 10ish if not in the top 10. That is the rumored limit for Coach Cal if that. Jai is rumored to be getting a nice staff. He better have success early.

I just don’t see a world where Miami keeps up with the programs that are truly serious about basketball in terms of NIL moving forward. One of many reasons I think finding a good COACH was more important than anything.

The ACC across the board is weaker than any time in my lifetime. If Lucas lands a good portal class, gets a few good recruits, expectations need to be NIT at a minimum.

I’m sorry but if between the university (once they can pay players directly) and the big money donors, there isn’t an extra $4 million somewhere to compete with the big dogs, then what the **** are we really doing?

Winning record. Jesus ******* Christ. In the era where quick turnarounds are easier than ever, 16-15 is the bar?
You also have a coach who has never run a program before. Look at Will Wade who just got hired at NC State. Wanna know why he’ll turn around that team pretty quickly, because he’s done it at multiple spots. I think you’re underestimating how big of a jump it is. In basketball, it’s away harder to get good results when you pair an expensive roster with average coaching

I’m not underestimating it all. You just laid out exactly why I think hiring a first time head coach was a mind-numbingly stupid decision.

All I'm looking for is 18-20 wins.

Tbh, I'm not high on the hire due to Lucas's inexperience & the fact that he's heralded as a recruiter coming from powerhouse programs that literally recruit themselves.

I think CBB is very much still a Coaches game, where understanding X's & O's, situational awareness, late game strategy & overall IQ of the game are more important than just having a bunch of talented players. In CBB, every possession counts, you need an architect who can manufacture the mean to a net positive when the talent cancels each other out. We've seen with Calipari's Kentucky teams, the absolute most stacked rosters on a yearly basis & still figured out some way to lose in the tourney.

With that said, I'm interested to see which side of the spectrum that Jai ends up on. What kind of Offense we'll be running & how he's able to map out possessions on the white board that gets our guys buckets in a critical moments. Or will he be the kinda coach that just gives the ball to the best player & tells him to go make something happen.

If he could hit the 20 win benchmark in year 1, that would bode well for his success moving forward.

I don't see a quick 1 year turn around like LVille's, completely different situations & circumstances. Pat Kelsey was an experienced highly savvy excellent coach who had won everywhere he'd been prior to getting the LVille job. This is Jai's first HC job ever.

And especially considering what appears to be a heavy emphasis on HS recruits, I don't think it would even be possible to put together a 20+ win season in year 1, unless Jai Lucas is the best kept secret in CBB & an absolute genius.

Nothing to disagree with here.

My view is that if Lucas brings in any of the experienced guys rumored to be assistant coaches (Mike Brey, Bruiser Flint), that will bode well for his time here. Definitely would provide him with a voice or voices with experience to lean on in crunch time at least at the beginning.
