Hope all is well with Zack!
Maybe he was tired/burnt out from this past season. Sometimes playing baseball 24/7 will do that to you. It's possible that stepping back from the Cape and resting up for next season is a smart move for him. Yes--in a perfect world, he should play in the league and get more reps/different coaching to work on his craft...but still...maybe time away will help him.He Quit?! What the **** is up with that

I'm not holding my breath, but if Michelangeli and Ruiz can nail down 3B/2B for us and be much improved over 2 years ago when they played more often for us...then that would be ideal. I think they're both OK players, Michelangeli needs to be better defensively to play for us everyday at 3B, and Ruiz has to get more consistent both at the plate and in the field.Edgar Michelangeli is tearing up the NECBL for Danbury as an every day infielder with a 324 Batting Average, batting fourth and playing third base, and though a late arrival Johnny Ruiz has been playing every day at 2nd for the Kalamazoo Growlers of the Northwoods League.
No question a bit of impulsive move. Thought he would be teaming with Willie but got released by Orleans and picked up by Cotuit while we were still in Omaha. He batted lead off in 3 of the 4 games he played in while waiting on Willie to bring a chronicled story of 'the bat' he wanted for HR derby to the Cape. Went to HR derby. Placed 5th. Chose not to go back while Willie HAS NOW broken in to the Orleans lineup (hit his first HR on national TV cape game last Tuesday). Orleans and Cotuit are on opposite sides of the Cape (30 miles on a 2 lane highway -- hardly an option for the two to hang out every day). Of our five original Cape League commits, Cooper Hammond is having a heckuva season pitching for Bourne with five Appearances and 7 innings since arriving July 2nd Cape Cod Baseball League Statistics by Pointstreak and Willie playing everyday (one day off - making up rainouts) since his arrival on July 2nd Willie Abreu - Cape Cod Baseball League - player | Pointstreak Sports Technologies on an Orleans team that is essentially an All Star team of an All Star league RUNNING AWAY with its division even with injuries and a LOT of late arrivals. Neither Garcia kept Cape Commitments either.
It is all about surroundings, Keven Pimentel is DOMINATING while Andy Honiotes has 2 appearances, and Carl Chester and Justin Smith are BOTH struggling with the adjustment to wood (and fighting for playing time) and yet all four have stuck with The NECBL, and The Plymouth Pilgrims at that (no offense, but not one of the better destinations within the NECBL if you were taking a poll). Jesse LePore has had 3 outings for Mystic, & Derik Beauprez is fighting through an up and down season for the Newport Gulls, and Edgar Michelangeli is tearing up the NECBL for Danbury as an every day infielder with a 324 Batting Average, batting fourth and playing third base, and though a late arrival Johnny Ruiz has been playing every day at 2nd for the Kalamazoo Growlers of the Northwoods League.
