Thoughts on which is more important. Seems like most of our past great players came in ready to go.

College baseball is less about the talent and more about coaching than football. In terms of pure talent out of HS.. they still have to be talented but it's more developmental in baseball whereas huge leaps aren't made often in football. In baseball, I've seen guys go from zero offers barely playing in HS while throwing 77-78 to throwing low 90s in college as an ace on a ranked team. You don't see kids running a 4.9 40 to running a 4.4 in college.

It's not gameday coaching though.. it's development in the off-season. Developing a stable of arms that can throw strikes and have good stuff, developing guys that can hit quality pitching, etc. Lots of work with mechanics and strength and lots of reps.

Horrible game day coaches with no clue how to manage a rotation or bullpen or how to manufacture runs and orchestrate base running make it to Omaha all the time. But they can all develop talent.

For many years we have not had “baseball players”. (Yes there are exceptions every year where we have a guy or two and they deserve recognition) But when you look at our team as a whole, we have a collection of guys who somehow performed or tested well at a showcase. We don’t have the guys that strike fear into the opposing coaches. That is on the mound and in the box. Idk how you get that to change other than finding someone smarter than who we have at the helm to locate those guys and/or develop them into more. But when you just look at our teams over the years, do they pass the eyeball test? Absolutely not. When you watch supers and the CWS, you see actual dudes. Actual baseball players who strike fear into their opponent. We are way too meek out there and it’s compounded with lousy approaches at the plate, in the field and on the base paths. We cannot overcome all of those issues. No one can. This program needs leadership that can identify actual baseball talent. Again, this isn’t to attack our team. It’s not personal. But we really don’t look (or play) like we belong

Just like 7v7 in football. The showcase circuit is taking its toll on baseball.

More about showcasing skills than it is being a dirtbag and winning games.

Unlike in football where the best talent is going to go to college… you see the best talent with potential get drafted and go straight to the pros(minors)

At this level you’ve got to A.) identify traits and project well and B.) be able to coach your *** off to get those guys to reach their ability

Not anymore. Last year, only 113 high school players were taken in the draft. With just 20 rounds, MLB teams aren't taking chances on high school kids like they used to.

6IP 1 hit 11 K’s yesterday for Rosario.

ERA is now 1.44. 31 IP 49 k’s 5 BB’s.

Palmquist and Herick will both benefit if they get with the right MLB teams.
