Jimmy Johnson let his assistants do their job and they succeeded into future successes. Butch Davis, Dave Wannstedt, Tommy Tuberville all were successful beyond the U. Who on our staff aspires to that kind of greatness or rather possesses the talent to move up? Maybe Dawson, or at least he was thought of before our collapse.

Something was obvious all year long, bad teams shredded our defense and it seemed inevitable we'd suffer the consequences. At least Manny brought in Lashlee and now we have to deal with SMU. What if anything improved?

We heap blame on the DB's and kept saying when injured players return, well Hurricanes in the past used and trusted their reserves. We are used to seeing backups come in and perform better than the player they subbed for. That is where coaching comes in, preparation in advance. I observed failures at LB as teams ran through our defense and a DL that couldn't bring pressure or stop the run. Did we see adjustments? Did any group improve? We've had some brilliant coaches but not lately. Quality coaches used to fight to get work with the U and our depth of talent, well we have the talent but no one of quality to exploit our talent.

I've harped on ST's and we are about to waste a decent Punter and a super Field Goal Kicker. When is the last time we had a return for a TD, how often did teams return against us? It’s all these supposed small things that separate the good from the great. Our only seemingly dominate position has been OL. I hope Mario has plans to improve our staff, otherwise prepare for more disappointments.

Go back to sleep.

"we are about to waste a decent Punter" That's probably a good thing.
We wasted Lou Hedley and Joyce was very good unlike Fleagles. Our special teams have been anything but special, pedestrian at best. How many times after we scored did our opponent have a huge return on the following kick off. How slow did our special teams look when a tight end outran everyone to prevent a score? Did we pull any trick plays all year, I cannot think of any fakes...maybe we pulled one, I'm thinking it was for 2 points? Whoopee! Without checking I'm thinking De Jay was the last one to return a punt for a TD. JJ had a special kickoff into the left side of the field and near the goal line and the teams were fast and often tackled the receiver inside the 10, he also kept a safety back to tackle anyone who got through (Bennie Blades comes to mind).

We look like every other team with no innovations. Howard brought pro-offense, JJ brought defensive speed, Dennis brought the one back offense even Manny got our first Aussie punter, now everyone has one. Mario brought us copycat mediocrity.

How exactly do you "waste" a punter?

The punter has literally nothing to do with what the other team does on a kick off return since he's not on the field, with the rare exception that the punter is kicking off. That special teams play that you mentioned the TE outrunning everyone was an interception return, AKA another play where the punter is not on the field. Trick plays? He's a punter. Returning punts for TDs? Again, not the job of the punter.

It's one thing when you dump your scrambled egg brain cells out into a post, but it's something special when you double down on it.

every air raid offense team has had **** defenses it comes with what they practice against but no one cares they just like fancy big nunbers.
So our defense could not stop any offenses because OUR offense was too good? Our O was so good that the Miami defense was too tired by Saturday?

no the air raid offense is terrible for the defense to practice against bc the concepts it uses no other team we play against use. so the defense practice against stuff it was never going to see on the weekend.

Isn't that kinda the whole purpose of film study?

Watching the other teams games & figuring out what they do?
