Coach Matt Merritt joined the Canes from USF after an outstanding season with the Bulls. He met with CanesInSight to discuss the opportunity and the players in his room:

On the transition to Miami: It’s really been seamless. Finding a house was probably the most difficult thing I had to do. Other than that, the transition here with the staff and players has been really good. I’ve had a lot of help in the building.

On the Canes’ RB tradition: I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t...

He’s a great addition to the staff. He’s coaching them and teaching them the right away. Glad we have a lot of guys that understand they all have areas that need improvement and are putting the time in. Would love for all of these guys to be elite at the college level and hopefully the pros.

Seems very surprising (concerning?) that the incumbent starting RB is not even mentioned in the interview. Understand he’s been hurt but to not even mention is strange.
CIS, or anyone or service for that matter, is there at Miami's pleasure. Press privileges are just that: privileges.
Probing too deep on topics that have already been deemed off-limits will anger the privilege givers. There are spoken and unspoken protocols that must be followed.

MC told his staff not to discuss injuries, so the interviewer honored that request as well. It was the right way to handle it.

I understand your position, the media should be fair and firm, and the privilege givers tend not to interfere too much unless someone violates trust or spreads misinformation, then the hammer will come down. But please understand, no one has 100% carte blanche.

Uh there are many things to discuss that wouldnt be injury related in regards to Mark Fletcher. This seems to be an intentional omission by D$ in the line of questioning. I am reading between the lines and it’s notable.

Time was limited and I just didn't feel like going down that road. If I asked about Fletcher, I'm sure he would've given me something.
