I know our D inprovement has much to do with more talent and depth and experience, but what about the move to the booth?

Seems we area LOT less confused, have much fewer breakdowns, and especially on third downs (last year it looked like we couldn't even get a defense on the field, a Chinese fire drill, during key thrid down plays)

I have heard inside stuff that Coach D maybe was ill suited to be on the sideline.

Think his move to the bgooth helps?

SMFH at this continued disbelief that the talent and experience we put out on D last year, thanks to our moron former HC, was complete garbage. Give it up already.

Where did I insinuate that?

D said he was on the sidelines because he was basically baby sitting a woefully under experienced and thin D. If he was in the booth last year, it would of been the same cluster****.

He has enough confidence now to be in the booth. Naturally, because the D is improved, he can focus more upstairs. Win Win.

It's pretty simple stuff.

I'm just tired of th pontificating on why our D was so bad when the answer was always clear as day to the knowledgable fan.

OK, I never heard that.

Less micromanaging, empowering your players (specifically leaders), and seeing the game/plays develop from above.

Good move for him.

Always feel it's better in the booth. Less emotion to influence and get to see what's going ob

I'm not going to say what the issue was before vs now as there are a lot of factors. Less depth, less experience, worse players, potentially over conservative play calling and more. What I will say is any coach can see so much more from the booth than they can from the field. Yes they are right there on the field, but imagine how many different camera angles they can see in the booth that he can see immediately and make the adjustment to play calls. There's so many other coaches on the sideline that he can tell one of them to get on the player while he is figuring out what to do on the next play call.

The fact that he is now in the booth should tell us how confident he and this coaching staff feels about this defense and the leaders on it.

I think this is better for the players, as well. Do you guys remember chatter last year about how some of the players were kind of disgruntled with Coach D? Before anyone jumps on me I know this is football and coaches screaming at players is part of the game, but think about how big of a culture shock that was for players at the time who were used to Randy basically whispering to them during games. I'd imagine it was something along the lines of:

"psssst..... good job, keep on flying around." We all know that the players in the doghouse weren't even spoken to out there on the sidelines.

So my point is simple: IF players were unhappy with the way he coached on the sideline screaming and stuff (I am not saying that their anger/frustration is justified to begin with), it is better to have the position coaches dealing with them directly on the field as the units are closer to that specific coach while Coach D is up in the box calling plays.

Win-Win for all involved.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

Tracey howard says thank god!! only kidding........again its players and less distractions

Our players got bigger. That's the biggest difference between then and now. Fans always seem to overthink things. D'onofrio is the same coach now he was then. It now works because our players can take on blocks, don't get dragged 5 yards upon initial contact, and can generate a better pass rush. S&C has done this team wonders.

Bigger, faster and stronger players. The players are being coached up and developed. For example, think Tyriq McCord, as an example of the process.

This "booth v. sidelines" coordinator nonsense is an internet paradise. It's made no difference at all. There's no magic elixir here. We're better because we have better, stronger, more experienced players. Period. That, and Coach D listened to some of the football scientists on here and completely changed his approach to calling defenses.
