Coach Golden Tidbits:
-Gives props to Lebron James and the Miami Heat to start it off. Singled out Coach Erik Spoelstra for having poise after they got off to a slow start
-Social Media impact on his job: is everywhere and says you have to really be careful what you say and where you are. Coaches that up in the kids
-On dealing with early commitments: Its all based on the individual and the family. Determine how solid it is based on the athlete and his family. They got hurt by it last year but this year its different. Kids have 10 to 12 top list which is crazy, but that is where recruiting is going.
-On kids who change commitments after someone else commits: Kids should have the utmost confidence in their ability. Pick a school for all the right reasons, not just certain reasons. Trust and Communication. If kids are unclear, go to him and he will clarify the situation.
-On offseason events (Olsen accident): He has information on it and spoke with Kevin and his Coach and is confident that it will be worked out. Not a concern for him. But with offseason events, everything is news so you just have to deal with it.
-Team's Potential: We have a long way to go as a football program. Guys who go to camp are guys that are on the train. It takes hard work and sacrifice and only the kids that puts the team first will roll on that train. Still has kids that need to grow up quickly in the program. Good to have some of the kids in early. (5 Freshman Grace, Burns, Lewis, Gall & Carter are infusing competition)
-How Many Positions are set going into this year: Lots of jobs are wide open. Kids with injuries are gonna step up and challenge for a spot. Doesn't know who the 5 starters for the OLine. 6 kids have started but they will have to fight for their spot. Tight End is going to be VERY competitive. Tailback OT should be fully cleared which will change the complexion of the RB lineup. Also said they are not done recruiting either.
-Is Tackle the strongest position: We will see. We should be better but not sure yet. Bunche, Taylor and Sonny will make us better. There is a lot of competition and if your not taking care of yourself, conditioning and studying the game, you can lose a step on the competition. Its a good group and we are stronger than we have been before.
-Summer Camps: Take all kids 6-12. 340 kids for the first camp. Good weather, excellent competition and was a good show out. Would like to name names but cant but said they really competed. Love the kids with 20 to 30 offers who DON'T CARE, are gonna come out and compete anyways and work to get better. Kids get advice not to go out to camps and compete and Golden disagrees. Kids have to want to get better.
-On Mind Games: Giving fans an inside look to help understand the game a little bit better. Wants kids to explain what they think and how their technique helps them on the field. Really proud of it. Prop'd SteMo for doing a great job on the first episode.
-On Stephen Morris: None of it is hype. Everything said about him is performance based. Gets respect from teammates and the league. Has become more vocal. Can run 4.6 but has an elite arm, pocket mobility and can get it down field. Wouldn't trade him for any QB in America. They stand behind that and have a great leader in Stephen and excited bout this year for him.
-On Receivers, how do get them playing time: Competition first. Allen Hurns leads by example and others follow suits. Catching the ball and special teams helps the team and they are changing the culture. Game plans will feature different players depending on the defenses they are facing. May be Dorsett one week, Scott when throwing to the X, Herb and Allen in redzone. They all have a job and role to fulfill. If you know your role and do your job, you will see the field.
That's it folks!
