In today’s media availability session, Miami Hurricanes linebacker KJ Cloyd shared insights into the team's preparations for their upcoming showdown with Clemson, shedding light on the challenges they face and the importance of getting a victory against a top ACC opponent.

Up-Tempo Practice Focus
The Miami Hurricanes are gearing up to face an up-tempo style of play from Clemson, which gave them issues last week against UNC. After struggling to keep up with North Carolina's tempo in their previous game, Cloyd emphasized the significance of practicing against such a scheme. He stated, "The best thing you can do is practice it, and that's what we've been doing a great job of this week – practicing going against tempo."

The Importance of Stopping the Run
Miami's defensive identity centers around stopping the run, which was not the case last week as the Tar Heels gashed the Canes on the ground. This has been a focal point in their preparations for Clemson. Cloyd emphasized the importance of revisiting the basics in run defense, saying, "Anytime you go into stopping the run, you have to go back to the basics – tackling, running your feet when you tackle, tackling as a unit."

Linebacker Depth and Substitutions
Cloyd recognizes the value of having a deep roster of linebackers, especially when facing up-tempo offenses. He highlighted how quick substitutions can be a game-changer, stating, "That is the best thing for us. We do have people that are able to go in and execute."

Having the ability to rotate fresh legs onto the field can be a significant advantage when combating the fast pace of teams like Clemson.

Facing Clemson's Quarterback, Cade Klubnik
Clemson boasts a dual-threat quarterback in Cade Klubnik, and Cloyd acknowledged the challenges this presents. He noted, "He's a great quarterback, and he is a dual-threat quarterback. He can beat you running and he can beat you throwing." Cloyd emphasized the importance of collective defensive effort to contain such a versatile QB.

The Unpredictability of the ACC
Cloyd, who has experienced the ups and downs of ACC football from his time at Louisville as well, offered his perspective on the unpredictable nature of the conference this season. He commented, "You never know how the league is going to shake out. Teams that are picked to win end up losing, teams that are picked to lose end up winning."
