NAPLES -- Hurricanes tailback Eduardo Clements was wearing a headset during Friday's scrimmage at Naples High. But he expects that -- and the neck brace he's been wearing for months -- to be replaced with a football helmet soon.

The 5-9, 192-pound senior from Booker T. Washington High, whose health and future with UM has been in question, said Friday he will have his brace taken off in the next two weeks and expects to be full-go when fall practice rolls around.

"I'm really happy that I will be getting this thing off," Clements said Friday. "At first they thought it was a stinger, but then they realized I had to have surgery for a herniated disk. I'm really going to be excited to be back out there with the guys soon."

Good news, happy for the kid

With Dallas/Dillard/Clements, I think we'll be alright behind Duke

I've always liked Clements. Vision is iffy but, kid hits the hole HAM and that's all I care about in a spell back. Bring the wood and bang.

Extremely easy to root for this kid. A very underrated special teamer and a good leader.

This is huge if just for short yardage and blitz pickup

Yea the sad thing is thats all its good for..Im not too sure about blitz pick up you want him int he game on 3rd down? I dont..unless its 3rd and 1

Another horse in the stable and the kid has been good in shirt yardage situations, glad he's coming back.

OT is coming back, let's go kid we need you.

Former teammate of mines had this injury. Now medicine has come a long way since my playing days...but the thing he has to do now is rebuild the muscles around his neck for further protection. Need to go HAM in the weight room to come out of this one. Just getting the brace off isn't the end of the journey.

As a RB, don't want to play around with that disk.

+1 on all the positive things said above. Seems like a real likable kid, hoping for the best..... a healthy EC would be a very nice surprise at a spot where we need one.

Towards the middle end of his Jr year he was being used as a third down back and short yardage guy. Al mentioned multiple times he was by far the best at blitz pickup of all the backs.

I'm sure Duke will be motioned out on some third downs like he was last year so that leaves EC to pass block.

It just gives us options and that's always good .

This is huge. If healthy, he'll be the second back behind Duke. He's shifty and has always reminded me of Portis, except Portis had a higher gear.

Seems like we're going to score a ****ton of points this year.

Can we stop anyone though? The majority of this positive news is on one side of the ball. I'm slightly worried.
